TOPIC: LEARNING TO MANAGE ALL SITUATIONS

Read Ecclesiastes 3:1-10

[1]To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

[2]A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

[3]A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

[4]A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

[5]A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

[6]A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

[7]A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

[8]A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

[9]What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth?

[10]I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.

MEMORISE:

I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need (Philippians 4:12).

EXPOSITION

Life always goes in pair of direct opposite things. According to today’s text, Eccl. 3:1-10, each pair carries along with it both positive and negative experiences. It is true of the wise saying that “life is full of ups and downs”. All life is a test and whatever you pass through in life, is a test from God. When things go for you the way you want it, it is a test, just like when the otherwise happens. The implication is that there is no situation you find yourself in life that will leave you the way it meets you. Your attitude to it determines what makes of you in its wake. We gather experience from all situations.

Whatever you have through in life, is not as important as your reaction and attitudes toward it. For instance, when you experience the time of abundance, how do you manage it? Preparing for the rainy time (Prov. 6:6-8), or spending it all (21:20)? Remember how Joseph helped manage the 7 years of surplus in preparation for the following 7 years of famine in Egypt (Gen. 41:29-37). Today, many people have become experts at managing poverty and lack. They don’t know how to manage success and abundance. If they have little success or blessing, it easily runs into their heads, ‘enjoying life to its fullest while it lasts’. How do you handle the period of surplus in your life?

The COVID-19 saga which forced sudden and compulsory holidays on the world, caught us unaware. The situation changed the systems and programmes of the world, and even churches. It takes people who have prepared for the time like that to be firmly established. Whatever situations we find ourselves, God allows it. He may be the cause. We must learn how to manage situations and circumstances instead of being slaves to times, places and positions. Learn from Apostle Paul (Php. 4:12,13).

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, give me the needed strength to manage every situations You allow in my life.

2. Lord, deliver me from the spirit of complaining or murmuring that blinds one from seeing the good things God hides in even the worst of all situations.

3. Lord, minister to the hearts of our national and community leaders as well as leaders of our churches to prepare for the unexpected as they lead us.
