THE COSTLY GAME OF IMPATIENCE
Read: Proverbs 28:20-22
Proverbs 28:20-22 A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.
To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress.
He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.
MEMORISE:
A faithful man will abound with blessings, but he who hastens to be rich will not go unpunished (Proverbs 28:20).
EXPOSITION
Impatience is a costly game that leads to failure with respect to fulfilling one’s purpose in life. It results in setback in life. It can lead to danger and destruction. It can lead to one’s early grave. Impatience causes one to take a right step at the wrong time. It is the inability to endure situations for a long period. When you are impatient, you think that certain things you long for are just coming too late. Any act of impatience you display cannot leave you without scars in your life (Prov. 28:20,22).
God has plan and purpose for everyone, and at the same time, has His own perfect timing to fulfil such. Perfect timing that can neither be too early nor too late. It is man’s impatience that makes him ask and settle for the permissive will, which is less qualitative. It is perfect will of God that brings divine blessings. God had it in mind to give lsrael their own king in His own set time, but they asked for a king when it was not yet time, being impatient with God and His perfect timing. What a costly game to live our lives by the permissive will of God. The people asked for the king out of desperation and impatience (1 Sam. 12:13). This is shown, how they refuse to preview the cost of their wrong choice (1 Sam. 8:9-22).
Whatever God wants to do for you, there is a set time for it. God never does anything rashly. All His promises for His own people have set times (cf. Gen. 17:21; 21:2; Lk. 1:20). It is expected of you to exercise patience as you long and wait for something to happen in your life. Someone said that patience is not just the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while wating. When you are waiting for your husband/wife, fruit of the womb, or whatever else, from God, mind your attitude. God has His own way of developing our character through patience (Rom. 5:3-4; Jas. 1:3-4). Therefore, in whatever you pass through, or you long for, learn to exercise patience. “Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet” (Aristotle).
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, help me to wait for Your perfect timing for Your promises concerning me.
2. I set myself free from the evil spirit of impatience that wants me to be hastier than God, in Jesus’ name.
3. Lord, give our singles the spirit of patience to choose their individual right marriage partners.
