Salvation is the entry point into a covenant relationship with the God of heaven. Just as we have been enjoying the privileges of the physical covenant relationships we are involved in without struggles (like marriage and friendship), so also, we can begin to enjoy the privileges of our covenant relationship with the God of heaven. The Word of God is simply the covenant of God with us in a written form.
The Bible is the book of the covenant. If you don’t know anything about covenants, you can’t plumb the depth of the truth of the Word of God, because the Bible is all about covenants between God and man. Most of the statements of the Bible are expressions of the covenant we have with God Almighty.
It is because we have approached the Bible with a wrong mentality that many people have not made a strong and bold stand on the word of God. Many approach God beggarly, when God said we should approach Him boldly. It takes a knowing that you have a covenant right in God’s presence for you to approach Him boldly as a son approaches his father. A wife approaches her husband based on covenant. The husband does not beg his wife for her body. He has a marriage covenant right to her body and vice versa. Through the sacrifice of Christ, we now have a Blood covenant right to all that Jesus has, and all that Jesus has is all that heaven can offer.
Tomorrow, we will look at some of the benefits we have a covenant right to in Christ.
PRAYER: Holy Spirit, help me to approach the Word of God with the right mentality and to enjoy the benefits I have as a child of God.
