BECAUSE HE SAID IT…

Read: Luke 5:1-11

Luke 5:1-11 On one occasion, while the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret,

and he saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets.

Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat.

And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”

And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.”

And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking.

They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.

But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.”

For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish that they had taken,

and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.”

And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him.

MEMORISE:

And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” (Luke 5:5).

EXPOSITION

Today is World Water Day. Let us discuss an event in the Bible that happened around waters. One obvious reason why you have not been enjoying God to the fullest is foot dragging when He issues out a directive or instruction to you! There is no two-way about it: it is either you bend or break! You do His instructions unquestionably, without dragging your foot or murmuring, and then, you become a beneficiary of His superfluity in all things (Deut.28:1).

The professionalism of  Peter in the fishing business was called into question when he reported he caught nothing, despite carrying out the exercise at best hunting time for fish! That is the problem of people today. Some tend or seem to know “better” on how to do  things, but have not been getting desirable results, because they have refused to lay aside their “wisdom” to embrace God’s “foolishness” (1 Cor.1:27). Why not exchange your “wisdom” (folly) for God’s “folly” (wisdom)?

Thank God Peter did the needful. He would have gone empty handed! He was already washing his net, accepting his ill-fated fishing day! Dear friend, it is time you lay aside all forms of argument, indecision, needless negotiations, and foot dragging on issues of your life. The earlier you do what God is saying to you about such situations, the better you would enjoy God’s manifold of blessings (Deut.28:1).

If you refuse to go God’s way, it will always yield nothing but toiling and fruitless efforts. Do not argue. Do not try to thwart God’s injunctions. Do not distort it. Do not drag your foot to do according to His Word (Isa.5:15). Thank God for the young Hebrew maid of Naaman. The latter would have missed his healing due to high-headedness and foot-dragging! (2 Kgs.5:13).

Even if it looks or sounds illogical, foolish, ridiculous, or absurd, what matters is “because He said it” Do according to Gods Word to stay blessed, now and forever.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, deliver me from unbelief.

2. Lord, help to keep WALKING on Your WORD come what may.

3. Help our leaders oh God to learn how to build up the believer’s FAITH so that they cease to live by sight.
