COMFORT YOUR HUSBAND
Read: Genesis 24:60-67
Genesis 24:60-67 And they blessed Rebekah and said to her, “Our sister, may you become thousands of ten thousands, and may your offspring possess the gate of those who hate him!”
Then Rebekah and her young women arose and rode on the camels and followed the man. Thus the servant took Rebekah and went his way.
Now Isaac had returned from Beer-lahai-roi and was dwelling in the Negeb.
And Isaac went out to meditate in the field toward evening. And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, there were camels coming.
And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she dismounted from the camel
And said to the servant, “Who is that man, walking in the field to meet us?” The servant said, “It is my master.” So she took her veil and covered herself.
And the servant told Isaac all the things that he had done.
Then Isaac brought her into the tent of Sarah his mother and took Rebekah, and she became his wife, and he loved her. So Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.
MEMORISE:
Then Isaac brought her into the tent of Sarah his mother and took Rebekah, and she became his wife, and he loved her. So Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death. (Genesis 24:67)
EXPOSITION
Yesterday, we looked at what men’s attitudes should be to their wives in celebrating their God-stamped worth. Today, we are looking at one of the things the Bible enjoins the wives to do to their husbands.
Man is naturally faced with life’s uncertainties. The foundational judgement that he would sweat before eating, and thorns becoming his food has remained a daunting task, of which no man can escape. He shoulders a lot of responsibilities, financially, morally, socially, and spiritually (Gen.3:17-19; 18:18,19). He, most times, would have to add ‘one’ to ‘two’ before he can make ends meet. And if his heart is yet to be met by Christ, that “ine-to-two” may be carried out in an ungodly manner.
When the man marries, he is happy. It is thought that life’s challenges will decrease, but it is contrary! Feeding his nuclear family becomes a headache, which can make him to naturally misbehave, sometimes. He is also responsible somehow to his extended family. In all these, the wife is to rise to the occasion by encouraging and comforting the husband in various ways (Prov.31:13). Isaac, according to our text, had lost his dear mother, Sarah before his marriage with Rebecca, even at a time he would have needed his mother most. It was Rebecca that comforted him. It means Rebecca was able to fill the vacuum that Sarah had left in Isaac’s life.
Dear sister, you should reduce your husband’s blood pressure, tension and anxiety through soothing, helpful words, and good morals. The wise and unassuming Abigail prevented the loss of her entire family and properties with good character. When your hubby is coming home from work filled with anger, do not complicate the matter with insensible, insensitive, irrelevant gestures? Welcome him with his cherished and godly panegyrics and delicacies. Let him cherished and godly panegyrics and delicacies. Let him have a shower. Stay around him and attend to his love needs… Before long, the tension will go down even as he shears the burden with you. Care for your husband. That is all you have got (Matt.19:5,6)!
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, forgive our wives those times they have not been the comforters of their husbands the way You want it.
2. Lord, give the conviction and passion to the parents and the church to prepare the youth for the future.
3. God is expected to be the foundation of all homes. No home becomes godly by chance, Lord help Your children to know and PURSUE this.
