CONQUERING INTERNAL TERRORS
Read: Galatians 5:19-21
Galatians 5:19-21 Now the doings (practices) of the flesh are clear (obvious): they are immorality, impurity, indecency,
Idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger (ill temper), selfishness, divisions (dissensions), party spirit (factions, sects with peculiar opinions, heresies),
Envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you beforehand, just as I did previously, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
MEMORISE:
Now the doings (practices) of the flesh are clear (obvious): they are immorality, impurity, indecency. (Galatians 5:9)
EXPOSITION
We now have the better awareness of what terrorism is. In some decades ago, we used to hear on the Radio how gunmen were bombing and raiding counties around the Middle-East. Alas! This is no longer news because it now happens even at our backyard on a daily basis. In spite of various efforts of government and NGOs to combat and contain the menace, it continue to rage on. It is now incumbent on us to restore to God for help (Psa.115:11).
But that is hardly what the Holy Ghost is saying to today’s users of the ever fresh Living Water! The physical terrors who are the insurgents remain threats to us and the environment. However, the spiritual ones are worse! While the physical terrors succeed only in destroying the body, the internal terrors wreck everlasting havoc by destroying both body and soul. The wreckages, though may not be immediate, or with instant physcal scars, yet these are better imagined than experienced (v.21b).
Paul, the Apostle, sheds light more on issues relating to those internal terrors (vv.19-21). They are the forces that make believers do what they don’t want to (2 Cor.10:3-6). They are unseen drives that make you want to tell lies, backbite, gossip, envy, fornicate, just to mention a few (Gal.5:19-21).
However, being fully possessed by the Holy Spirit helps to conquer these internal terrors, which are works of the flesh. All these are terrors that are worse than the physical insurgents! They are threats to your life now and life eternal, and it remains worrisome, if you fail to put them under check (Rev.21:8). May God assist you to crush all these terrors permanently. Amen.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, grant me the grace and power to put all the works of the flesh under control.
2. Pray for total victory over terrorism, banditry, and other forms of destruction ravaging nations of the world.
3. Lord, deliver our nation from both internal and external aggressions, in Jesus name.
