HE WHO HAS EARS (1)

Read : Matthew 11:15-19

MEMORISE: He who has ears to hear, let him hear  (Matthew 11:15).

EXPOSITION

Ears are feature shared by all of humanity. And not to have ears would be an unnatural occurrence. Listening to God’s Word is vital, to and  for our Christian faith. The trouble today is that people aren’t trained to listen very very well anymore, because information can freely be found in books, or on the Internet. No thanks to so many of our pastors who are no longer teaching and training their members to become mature Christians in the Lord. For a genuine spiritual growth, a listening/hearing ear is significant.

An older couple had an ongoing semi-serious discussion about which one of them was losing their hearing. As time went on, this became quite a bone of contention between them. The husband decided he would settle the issue once and for all. While his wife was enjoying a book in the living room, he said in a  loud voice, “Dear, would you like a cup of tea?” Upon hearing no response, he progressed to the next room and  said again in a firm voice, “Dear, would you like a cup of tea?”  Still there was no reply from his wife. Lastly, he went into the living room and stood directly behind the chair in which his wife was sitting. In an even louder voice he repeated, “Dear, would you like a cup of tea?” She turned to him with a slightly annoyed expression on her face and replied, “For the third time… Yes!” Interesting, isn’t it?

At times, things aren’t  always appear as it ought to. Most of us can hear clearly, or there are times when we can’t hear at all, while other times, we just choose not to hear. This draws clearly, the difference between having ears and having “ears to hear.”

In Jesus’ parable for today, we aren’t expected to be like the unresponsive children or like the illustrative wife above who heard the third time but never responded. Whenever Jesus. Says, He who has ears to hear, let him hear, He is calling for people to pay careful attention to the words heard. Do likewise daily.

PRAYER POINTS:

1. O my inner man, hear the Word of the living God are live.

2. Lord, deposit in me and sustai the grace of listening/hearing ears, so that I won’t keep losing those things You hay for me.

3. Pray that God should deliver our youths from hitching ears that make the sound teaching of God’s Word boring, burdensome and needless to them.
