WALKING IN LOVE

Read: Ephesians 5:1-2

Ephesians 5:1 – 2 Therefore be imitators of God [copy Him and follow His example], as well-beloved children [imitate their father].

And walk in love, [esteeming and delighting in one another] as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us, a slain offering and sacrifice to God [for you, so that it became] a sweet fragrance.

MEMORISE: In this [union and communion with Him] love is brought to completion and attains perfection with us, that we may have confidence for the day of judgment [with assurance and boldness to face Him], because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love [dread does not exist], but full-grown (complete, perfect) love turns fear out of doors and expels every trace of terror! For fear brings with it the thought of punishment, and [so] he who is afraid has not reached the full maturity of love [is not yet grown into love’s complete perfection] (1 John 4v17-18)

EXPOSITION

A very scarce commodity in the world is love. Inject love in the world and the world will be the best haven. A world devoid of love is not better than a help on earth. This is the more reason we need to strive to demonstrate more love among ourselves. Paul reveled the priceless virtues embedded in love in his epistles to the Corinthians: Love endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily. It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God’s love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong]. It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail. (1 Cor.13:4-6).

Love is the only antidote to the problem the world is facing. When we walk in love for God and man, we will not offend, and be offended by anyone. To love someone is to place high value on his/her life, because you will always rightly see him/her as God’s image. That is when killing, backbiting, supplanting, conspiracy, betrayal, etc. that people mastermind against one another will be a thing of the past. How on earth would Cain ever think of Killing Abel, his own blood brother, had he loved him? (1 Jn.3v11-13). Likewise, Judas would not think of betraying his Master to those who are seeking His life, had he truly loved the Master.

To walk in love is to walk in God, because God is love (1 Jn.4v7,8). If you don’t love, you don’t know God. Apostle Paul admonishes believers to walk in love because that is the only thing that can give us the peace, unity and harmony that we long for. This world of love is the world of happiness, tranquility, and perfect unison. There is no fear in love, for perfect love dispels fear (1 Jn.4v18).

PRAYER POINTS:

1. Let Your love rule in my heart, so that my life will be radiating Your glory.

2. Lord, deliever our world from hatred, killing, kidnapping, violence, etc, in Jesus name.

3. Let Your love dominate the heart of all our leaders (spiritual and secular) and imbue in them the Spirit of unity and oneness which will foster progress and development in our societies and churches.
