THOUGHT THE LORD WAS WITH HIM

Read: Judges 16:15-21

Judges 16:15-21 And she said to him, How can you say, I love you, when your heart is not with me? You have mocked me these three times and have not told me in what your great strength lies.

And when she pressed him day after day with her words and urged him, he was vexed to death.

Jis mind and said to her, A razor has never come upon my head, for I have been a Nazirite to God from my birth. If I am shaved, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak and be like any other man.

when Delilah sawhat he had told her all his mind, she went and called for the Philistine lords, saying, Come up this once, for he has told me all he knows. Then the Philistine lords came up to her and brought the money in their hands.

And she made Samson sleep upon her knees, and she called a man and caused him to shave off the seven braids of his head. Then she began to torment [Samson], and his strength went from him.

She said, The Philistines are upon you, Samson! And he awoke out of his sleep and said, I will go out as I have time after time and shake myself free. For Samson did not know that the Lord had departed from him.

But the Philistines laid hold of him, bored out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza and bound him with [two] bronze fetters; and he ground at the mill in the prison.

MEMORISE:

She said, The Philistines are upon you, Samson! And he awoke out of his sleep and said, I will go out as I have time after time and shake myself free. For Samson did not know that the Lord had departed from him. (Judges 16:20)

EXPOSITION

Samson was given all he needed to succeed as a carrier of divine assignment-miraculously birth, divine promises, divine enablement, etc. He was earmarked to deal with God’s enemies and free His people from the enemies hold, but he chose not to follow the instructions of the Owner of his life and assignment. His disobedience and recalcitrance eventually led him to the lap of Delilah, the harlot, who occasioned the loss of his power. When a man continually plays with sin, God’s wrath wouldn’t be withheld forever. Samson eventually tasted of the cup of God’s wrath.

What a pathetic situation that Samson landed himself in! After stupidly  divulging the secret of his power, telling the devil’s agent the taboo of his glory, he was accordingly dealt with. The resultant event brought tears from the eyes of those who understood the implications on all fronts. As the enemy came upon him, he thought he could continue doing the divine exploits that he was doing. He actually thought God was still with Him, but found otherwise. Of course, God didn’t move from His place, but Samson has gone from under the cover of the Lord’s Power, Presence and Covenant.

Frightening, this is the situation with so many on-the-top people. Some of such people, after having discovered the situation, try by all means to cover it up from man. Saul experienced it. Israel fell into it. Truly, the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocably (Rom. 11:19), but don’t throw it away!

At a point in time, and especially after God’s children had disobeyed, God told them He was not going out with them and warned them not to go to battle. “But they went out PRECIPITOUSLY RESULT? Woeful defeat (Deut.1v43,Num.14:41-43).

PRAYER POINTS:

1. Deliver me, O Lord, from the spirit of carelessness or I-don’t-care-attitude.

2. Lord, deliver me from anything I am holding unto that can cause me to lose Your presence and power, in Jesus name.

3. Pray for as many as possible brethren and ministers of the Gospel who have lost the presence of God, bringing in the devil to torment them.
