STAND OUT FOR GOD
Read: Daniel 1:1-21
But Daniel determined in his heart that he would not defile himself by [eating his portion of] the king’s rich and dainty food or by [drinking] the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might [be allowed] not to defile himself. (Daniel 1:8).
Many a times, man’s predicament is inability to take decision on his own without external influence or impact. Saul, the first King of Israel, wanted to excuse himself for dabbling into the priestly ministry by saying that the people around him ‘pushed’ him to do so, while Samuel tarried (1 Sam.13v8-10). It is commonly said that majority have their was as they carry the day while minority may have their say! However, the vast majority may sometimes be on the wrong side of fence (Joel 3v14).
Discussion on Daniel and 3 other Hebrew young men is a perfect match for today, being international Youth Day. These were among many selected in Babylon to be trained and nourished, in order to stand before the king. They had the opportunity to eat the kings delicacies on daily basis, but Daniel opted for only pulse and water, with his friends. Why did he do that? Apart from the knowledge of refusing eating foods which might have been dedicated to idols, Daniel wanted to to be disciplined and different for God. It was not that easy for Daniel to take his stand on this, for there were enough to tempt him to be like the others
Dear devout, what has been hindering you from taking your solid stand for God? “What will people say or think of me?” has been the impediment! James in chapter 4v4 of his epistles says, …friendship with the world is enmity with God… Any attempt to dance to the tune of the world in their fads, taste, methods and general ways of life is tantamount to mutiny against God! Mutiny is the act of refusing to obey the orders of somebody in authorities, especially by soldiers and sailors. It is an act of disloyalty, and it is punishable.
No matter how dangerous or risky, it is the best to stand with and for God in all ways. In your workplace, school and business dealings, resolve to stand by, with, and for God. Dare to be a different child of God! Don’t be numbered among so-called Christians who mingle with the world (cf.Exod.23v2)! Come what may, always take your stand. If you stand out for God, He will in turn maker you outstanding in all your endeavors (Dan.1v20). Be blessed.
1. Lord, I resolve to stand for, by and with You, enable me.
2. The spirit of excellence, in and for Christ, fall rest on me, in Jesus name.
3. Pray for those in politics in our churches to catch the fire of being ready to die, if needs be, in defence of the Gospel of Christ wherever they are.
