THE BLAST OF THE TERRIBLE ONES

Read: Isaiah 25:3-5

Isaiah 25:3-5 Therefore [many] a strong people will glorify You, [many] a city of terrible and ruthless nations will [reverently] fear You.

For You have been a stronghold for the poor, a stronghold for the needy in his distress, a shelter from the storm, a shade from the heat; for the blast of the ruthless ones is like a rainstorm against a wall.

As the heat in a dry land [is reduced by the shadow of a cloud, so] You will bring down the noise of aliens [exultant over their enemies]; and as the heat is brought low by the shadow of a cloud, so the song of the ruthless ones is brought low.

MEMORISE:

For You have been a stronghold for the poor, a stronghold for the needy in his distress, a shelter from the storm, a shade from the heat; for the blast of the ruthless ones is like a rainstorm against a wall. (Isaiah 25:4).

EXPOSITION

In this time of storms and tempest all over the world (pandemic, terrorism, kidnapping, etc.)the need for believers to put their trust in the Almighty God cannot be overemphaasised. Troubles, especially when heavy and expressive of divine displeasure, are represented in the Bible as storms. The fierceness of the oppressor is represented by the intolerable heat, and the fierce tornado of an eastern storm, dashing against the wall, threatening it with destruction. From that storm, the faithful servants of the Lord should find shelter as in the castle of the great King.

These terrible ones are Satan and his principalities who are very terrible to the Lord’s people, and whose temptations are like a strong wind, which beat against them as against a wall, but the Lord has been their protection, and made them to stand as a wall, firm and immovable, against them. Those who trust in the Lord are like mount Zion which cannot be moved but abides forever (Psa.125v1)

God protects His people in all weathers. The Lord shelters those who trust in Him from the audacity of oppressors. Their strength silences the noise of strangers; it is like the heat of the sun scorching in the middle of the day. The Lord ever was, and ever will be, the Refuge of distressed believers. Having provided them a shelter, He teaches them to flee into it. The blast of the terrible was like a storm against a wall, which makes a great and terrible noise, but without any effect. For the walls stands firm in spite of it. God eternally secures His own (Psa.91v1).

PRAYER POINTS:

1. Lord Jesus, shelter me with Your mighty power from the insolence of oppressors.

2. Father, be a wall of protection for me from the blast of the terrible ones whose temptations are like a strong wind that beat against me.

3. Lord Jesus, be the Refuge of all distressed believers who are in the troubled areas of the world.
