ENJOYING YOUR FREE ACCESS TO GOD

Read: Job 22:21-28

Job 22:21-28  Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.

Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.

If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.

Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.

Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver.

For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.

Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.

Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.

MEMORISE:

Now acquaint yourself with Him, and be at peace; thereby good will come to you (Job 22:21)

EXPOSITION

When the people of the Old Testament had any enquiry before God, they went through the priest as the middlemen between them and God. They made their sacrifices to God by the hands of the priests. As time went on, they began to abuse this opportunity as they began to replace their personal relationship with God with animal sacrifices through their priests. It got to a particular time, God, too began to reject their sacrifices (Isa. 1:11-17). Although, they presented good animals before God for sacrifices, their own lives were stinking in the sight of God because of sin. God is more concerned with who we are than what we think we can do to get His favour.

In the New Testament era we are in, we have access to God by far better than the people of the Old Testament. Unlike them, we are the royal priests having freedom to go to the throne of grace and mercy without any intermediary (1 Pet. 2:9). We can enjoy access to God any day, any time, regardless of where we are and who we are, in terms of gender or status (Gal. 3:28). This freedom we enjoy now is through the sacrificial death of Christ, our Passover (1 Cor. 5:7).

However, we can abuse the enjoyment of free access to God, if we regard iniquity in our hearts (Psa. 66:18). As our memory Scripture states it, one needs to acquaint him/herself with God before he/she can have direct access to Him. To acquaint oneself with God means to agree with God and show oneself to be conformed to His will. It also means to submit to Him. If you have a known sin in your life that you are yet to confess, you are quarrelling with God. When you submit to God, you can activate Job 22:28 that says, ‘You will also declare a thing, and it will be established for you…’ Remember, no more sacrifice for wilful disobedience (Heb. 10:26).

PRAYER POINTS

1. I ask for more grace to maintain my relationship with God, in Jesus’ name.

2. I pray for courage to go to the throne of mercy without fear and doubt, always, in Jesus’ name.

3. Pray for privileged ministers of God to stop abusing their freedom as New Testament believers.
