DON’T BRING ABOMINATION TO YOUR HOUSE
Read: Deuteronomy 7:25-26
Deuteronomy 7:25-26 The images of their gods you are to burn in the fire. Do not covet the silver and gold on them, and do not take it for yourselves, or you will be ensnared by it, for it is detestable to the Lord your God.
Do not bring a detestable thing into your house or you, like it, will be set apart for destruction. Regard it as vile and utterly detest it, for it is set apart for destruction.
But the Israelites were unfaithful in regard to the devoted things; Achan son of Karmi, the son of Zimri, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of them. So the Lord’s anger burned against Israel. (Joshua 7:1).
We have heard of illegal duty, money, wife, occupation of a house, land, possession of firearms, etc. all of which attract punishments under the law. But the most illegal, heinous crime a man can commit is bringing idols to His house and serving them. That is why Exodus 20v3-5 stress the importance of allegiance with any other thing, no matter what it is. He never to touch anything associated with it. Don’t ever take their gold or silver.
Today, people eat food sacrificed to idol and spend money offered to it. Can all wealthy and well-to-do Christians honestly attribute the source of their wealth and blessings to God? Don’t some go to ritualists, people of the underworld to get to where they are? What about those monies collected by ‘professional fund-raisers’ from yet-to-be-converted unbelievers on some of our revival grounds, not minding from where they get them? No wonder, there are more troubles at home, in church, and in the society; for some of us have brought strange and abominable things to our camps (homes, churches, workplaces, ministries, etc), and God, on His own volition, can give you the wealth of nation’s, He doesn’t want us to covet them.
God’s people must be clean in all ramifications; within and without. “I am the Lord your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy. Do not make yourselves unclean by any creature that moves along the ground”. (Lev.11v44). Obedience, the Scripture says, is better than sacrifice (1 Sam.15v22). Solomon and Samson fell by bringing abomination to their homes. They got hooked by them. May you never stumble as you make amends, today. Amen.
1. Lord, help me to overcome being unequally yoked with unbelievers.
2. I ask for forgiveness for, and disown every abomination I have brought into my life, home and endeavours, in Jesus name.
3. Lord, deliever Your Church from Achans bringing forbidden things to it.
