INTRODUCTION
Glory to God for the wonderful lessons we learnt last week. The new topic we shall be looking at, for another two weeks, is about a young man who loves to follow Christ but was initially afraid due to inexperience. He submitted himself for mentoring and he later became every reliable and dependable in the things of God.
WEEK ONE: THE LOYAL DOCTOR LUKE
November 14, 2021
While some of his friends have been sent out on missionary assignments, others, such as Demas, have turned their back on Paul and abandoned him. This is Luke is the only one still with him. This is Luke the physician (Colossians 4:14) who travelled as a missionary with Paul, during his first imprisonment. He appears to have been extremely loyal to Paul, remaining as his final friend during his second imprisonment. In addition, he wrote both the Gospel of Luke and the book of Acts. It’s possible that Luke served as Paul’s secretary at some point in time. How loyal and reliable are you?
LESSONS
1. Paul had a lot of friends who were also workers for Christ.
2. We must be careful and not allow anything to stop us from following Christ.
3. God wants us to be loyal to Him as servants.
WEEK TWO: THE RELIABLE AND DEPENDABLE MARK
November 21, 2021
This week, we saw Paul’s second friend who was mentioned in our memory verse – he is Mark. This is John Mark, a young man whose mother hosted early believers in her home in Jerusalem. He travelled with Paul and Barnabas on their first missionary journey, leaving them early early to return to Jerusalem (Acts 13:13). When Paul and Barnabas prepared for a second trip, they divided because Paul refused to take Mark with them, while Barnabas who was Mark’s relative chose to remain with him and took him on his own journeys(Acts 15:36-40). Whatever the reason for absconding the other time, we do not know, but we believe. Mark later appeared with Paul during his first arrest on Rome (Colossians 4:10; Philemon 1:24.
Interestingly, this once-rejected Mark wrote one of the Gospels which bear his name. And while Paul was nearing the end of his life and ministry, he sent for Mark, describing him as very useful for the ministry. The end is always better than the beginning.
LESSONS
1. When parents are godly, it helps children to love the Lord and follow His ways.
2. The downfall of a man is not the end of his life.
3. A life lived in God’s way will attracts a lot of good things.
QUESTIONS
1. Who is the friend that left Paul?
2. Who is Luke
3. Described John Mark and mention things we can learn from his life.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to be useful, reliable and dependable in Jesus name.

LESSON TWENTY-TWO
November 14 and 21, 2021
TOPIC: THE RELIABLE AND DEPENDABLE MAN
TEXT: 2 Timothy 4:11
MEMORY VERSE: Luke alone is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is very useful in serving me – 2 Timothy 4:11 (GNB)
LESSON OBJECTIVES: At the end of this lesson, the pupils are expected to:
1. be useful in the service of God; and
2. Become reliable and dependable children anywhere they find themselves.
God’s children must be reliable and dependable
INTRODUCTION
God created everyone of us His purpose alone. The reason for our creation can only be realised, if we accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. Every child will become useful to God and man only in Christ Jesus.
WEEK ONE: MARK AT THE BEGINNING
November 14, 2021
Mark was a child of God. He feared God and obeyed God’s divine instructions. He was also called John (Act 15:37); he was a hard worker in the service of God. John Mark worked with Paul, Barnabas and Peter. He was the one who wrote the book of mark.
As a child of God, you must be able to work for your Creator by preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to the people, far and near. But before you can work for God, you must accept Jesus into your life and allow the fear of God to fill your heart in whatever you are doing. It is only through the fear and obedience to God that you can become reliable and dependable.
LESSONS
1. Let people speak well of you anywhere
2. Submit yourself to be used by God.
WEEK TWO: MARK AT THE END
November 21, 2021
John Mark was dedicated to the gospel of Jesus Christ. He journeyed with Paul, Peter and Barnabas on different occasions to preach. In his relationship with them, they realised that Mark was reliable and dependable.
You must also possess these qualities as a child of God. Let your parents, teachers, friends and anyone around you trust in whatever you say or do. How? Stop lying, stealing; do what is expected of you, even when no one is there to supervise you. When sent on an errand, do you care to return the remaining change? All these will prove whether you are reliable and dependable. Are you committed to the things of God? i.e. Bible Study, Sunday schools, evangelism, etc. Become like Mark now. Jesus loves you.
LESSONS
1. You can only become dependable and reliable, if you have accepted Jesus into your life.
QUESTIONS
1. What can you learn from the life of Mark?
2. How can one become reliable and dependable?
3. What should be our attitude to the gospel of Christ?
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, come and live in my life.

LESSON TWENTY-TWO
November 14 and 21, 2021
TOPIC: THE RELIABLE AND DEPENDABLE JOHN MARK
TEXT: 2 Timothy 4:11
John Mark was a faithful servant of God. He was one of the followers of Apostle Paul.
Paul told Timothy to bring John Mark along because he saw John Mark to be a useful instrument for the work of the gospel. Not only that, John Mark was reliable and dependable. How?
He was reliable because, whatever his mentor or leader asked him to do, he would do, he would do it with his whole heart. Are you also reliable in your house chores? Are your parents proud of you?
John Mark remained faithful to his master and that is why he was said to be dependable. Can your friend, teacher, parents or uncle depend on you in whatever is being committed into your hands? If not, today is another opportunity for you to change and repent. Become a useful believer, like John Mark, and let God and your parents be proud of you.
The money you find on the table, bag, kitchen, or under the pillow, did you give it to mummy or daddy? What about mummy’s change when sent on an errand? Confess and repent now! God is waiting for you, He loves you.
MEMORY VERSE: Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you because he can help me in the work – 2 Timothy 4:11 (GNB).
PRAYER: Lord work upon my life so that I will be useful for your glory alone.
