THE SEVENTH DAY
READ: GENESIS 2 : 2-3
MEMORISE: Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy (Exodus 20:8)
EXPOSITION
The Bible records that God worked in 6 days of Creation, and rested on the 7th. To God, the 7th day is a test day. He did observe that and designed it as a day of rest for the man He created. The 7th day typifies what is to come – the eternal blissful rest with Him. He makes all days including the 7th available to all since creation. However, man has been using the six days as prescribed by God, but not the seventh that should be a day of rest and worship. Most of the time, we defeat the purpose of God for the 7th day as we eschew fellowship with Him (cf. Gen. 2:3).
God intentionally created the Sabbath for man who must spend an unhurried time in worship before Him, and for adequate rest, to regain the lost energy for the work ahead. That God blessed the 7th day indicates that He sets it apart for holy use. How are you using this day that God expects to be dedicated to Him by His people? A day not to work, but to rest and worship God (Exodus 20:10). The 7th day is God’s provision. Do you see it that way?
There is no rest, if we have not worked. What do we want to rest from, if we don’t work? We only rest from our works. God commands us to work with all our strength and energy during the day – the 6 working days, because there is no work on the seventh (Eccl. 9:10). Rest is sweet after work.
Dear devout, soon, the days of work here, will be over. Work for the rest that follows – the unending time we will spend in eternity with Christ those who will not work as unto the Lord in their 6 days (cf. Col.3:23) now would not be able to rest because they would be resting from nothing, and that isn’t possible. Learn to rest and worship on the 7th day, now, because that is all we do after our labours in this world. May we be counted worthy of His rest, now and forever, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Pray that God will increase your desire for Him so that you will revere Him more and more.
2. Pray that God will give you the grace to work here on earth for Him, so that you can inherit His eternal rest.
3. Pray that God will quicken every Christian to devote themselves to fellowshipping more with Him and one another in Him, and doing His works assiduously and conscientiously in preparation for His eternal rest.
