DON’T FATHER PELEG

Read: 1 Corinthians 3:1-9

1 Corinthians 3:1-9  And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.

I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.

For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?

Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man?

I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.

Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.

For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.

MEMORISE: To Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan (1 Chronicles 1:19)*

EXPOSITION

Our memory Scripture talks of the two sons of Eber, but the first is our focus interest today. Peleg was given that name because, according to the Scripture, the earth was divided in his days. What a terrible testimony about a person! Thank God the Bible doesn’t hide anything, the good side, or otherwise, about any of the characters discussed in it. Meanwhile, the Hebrew word ‘Peleg’ itself means ‘division’. It should rather be regarded as an appellation given to this first son of Eber to describe, negatively commemorate, and immortalise what happened in his days, for posterity sake.

Obviously, it isn’t Eber’s fault to have fathered ‘Peleg’ in his own time. Time and chance happened. The story of Peleg, notwithstanding, God cannot be happy with anyone who breeds division. Never be part of any divisive move anywhere God places you – church, home, workplace, society, etc.

Apostle Paul was so pissed off by the divisions in the church at Corinth that he concluded under divine inspiration that is was carnality and spiritual stagnancy had engulfed the brethren there. If God never authors confusion, division, why would He be ever happy with he who fathers ‘Peleg’? Whether at home, in the church, at workplace, or elsewhere, never let ‘peleg’ start with you (cf. Rom. 12:18,19).

Never be adjudged rebellious. He, on whose head a coconut is cracked, cannot live to taste of it. Don’t let anything that causes division to be traced to you at home, in the church, in your workplace, and in the society. God rewards proponents of division accordingly.

PRAYER POINTS:

1. Lord, expunge from me the spirit of rebellion.

2. Pray that God should visit and restore homes that are being ravaged by division.

3. Pray that God should put an end to every form of division in churches and denominations worldwide that is making Satan happy, in Jesus’ name.
