TOPIC: THE WRONG WAY NEVER TURNS RIGHT

Read: Genesis 17:1-3

17:1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

17:2 And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.

17:3 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,

MEMORISE: Thus says the Lord: “Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls. But they said, “We will not walk in it” (Jeremiah 6:16)

EXPOSITION

Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount (Matt. 5-7) ends with a series of contrasts between two groups of people (7:13-27): those who go through the wide gate, and those through the narrow gate; those on the broad path, and those on the narrow path; those who bear good fruit, and those who bear the bad; he who builds his house upon the sand, and that who builds his on the rock. This shows that people often may be divided into two groups in the world: the right group and the wrong group. The same thing can be said of going on, either the right way or the wrong way of life. No one can walk in both ways at the same time.

Looking more closely today on the instruction of God to Abraham (Gen. 17:1-2), we discover that the patriarch was going on the wrong way of life to achieve a right thing, the birth of the Promised child (heir). And Abraham said to God, “Oh, that Ishmael might live before You!” Then God said: “No, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son…” (Gen. 17:18-19).

That someone has celebrated results, especially academic and financial breakthroughs, does not indicate that he is on the right way of life. The world system, technically, hubs on the wrong way of life and guards it jealously through series of laws and edicts. Children of God must walk discreetly in this world, whose godless ways are deceivingly popular, pleasurable, corrupt and destructive.

Know that the applause of man does not necessarily signify the approval of God. Going on the wrong way has never turned right in the end (cf. Prov. 14:12). Get out of the wrong group and mind-set, today, and start walking right with, and before God.

PRAYER POINTS

1. I receive the grace to walk right always before God, in Jesus’name.

2. You spirit that leads people to the wrong paths, away from me, in Jesus’ name.

3. Pray for our leaders at all levels to be doing the right things the way God wants them, in Jesus’ name.
