THE RIGHT MIND

Read: Luke 8:5-15

Luke 8:5-15 A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.
And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.
And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.
And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be?
And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.
Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.
They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.
But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

MEMORISE: And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (Romans 12:2).

EXPOSITION
The mind is a very important part of the body. It is where every thought comes from. When the mind is not right, it affects everything about us (cf. Matt. 12:34b). It is clear from our text today that the fruit out lives produce largely depends on the state of our minds. The sower went to sow but at the end, not all the land yielded ad expected, not because the Word is not potent but because the land (mind) is not in the right condition. That is why it is important for us to fix our minds so that our hearts will not limit our fruits despite our exposure to the Word.

There are many things that must be considered if our minds will be in good order, such as, what we hear with our ears, what we see with our eyes, what we touch or feel with our hands or body. All of these things control our personal desires, and pass corresponding messages to our minds. For your mind to be positively productive and balanced in this polluted world, diligently and jealously gaurd it against pollution’s (Prov. 4:23). In this sinful world, to make your heart productive, you must regularly and diligently study the Word of God (Josh. 1:8). Deliberately avoid some acts (Prov. 4:10-15). Life is garbage in, garbage out. Input determines output. Your mind processes the information inputted, to give products accordingly, even as today marks World Telecommunication and Information Society Day. Study the Bible in depth, devotedly, as food for your mind. After being processed, it will give the right nutrients and strength to your body as productive thoughts.

Moreover, be connected to God through prayer, which is the act of conversing with God in Jesus Christ (Jn. 14:6). Create time to pour out your supplications to God in prayer, in the strength and assistance of the Holy Spirit. Each time we spend with the Lord in prayers, the Lord speaks to us in return. He blesses our minds in difficult times. Learn to spend time with the Lord at all times in order to have a balanced and productive mind.
