THREE DESTRUCTIVE CHARACTERS
READ PROVERBS 27V4

KJV:Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?

Memorise: KJV:Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?
(Proverbs 27v4)

Exposition
Character is like an emblem. It describes a thing and tells more about what it describes. It is very powerful, and determines the height you can reach, and for how long you will be sustained there. Character comprises your attitude to life, and attitude, they say, determines your altitude in life. You go or grow beyond the level your altitude (which is a major determinant of your character) allow you to get to in life. If anyone will pay little or no attention to his/her character, it shouldn’t be a Christian who is specifically charged to add virtue to faith (2 Pet.1v5-9). Thank God for prayer and hard work. Yet, character can destroy what a man has built over the years, within the shortest period, if not we’ll managed.

While the gift of the Holy Spirit may take you to the loftiest height of grace, the fruit of the Holy Spirit will not just help you there, it will hold and sustain you up there. The Bible rhetorically asks, Wrath is cruel and anger a torrent, but who is able to stand before jealousy? Three important things are mentioned in that Scripture: Wrath, anger, and jealousy. They are veey deadly and destructive. The Bible describes one as Cruel, the other, as torrent (i.e. deluge, inundation, destructive surge), and the third, sometimes that can’t be withstood or favourably tolerated. None of these is part of the list of Christians virtues (checks Gal.5v22).
Which of these destructive characters are you battling with? Ask the Holy Spirit to purge you of it (them). Allow the Spirit of God to take total charge (control) of you, including most importantly your character. Then would you be living a Spirit-controlled life. Tim Lahaye has explained how the Holy Spirit affects the personality traits (temperament)of a Christian in his book, Spirit-controlled Temperament. You can’t afford to let any of the aforementioned destructive characters destroy you.

Prayer points
1. Lord, don’t let the manifestation of the flesh ruin me.
2. Lord, deliever me from myself, and let Your Spirit take over my life.
3. Pray for every one serving jail terms all over the world to meet Christ, there, and that the Holy Spirit, should expunge destructive characters from their lives.
