Bible Text: Ephesians 2:4-9
Memory Verse: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.” Ephesians 2:8, NIV
One day, Cynthia ate at a restaurant and the owner asked her not to pay. She said someone in the restaurant had paid the bill. Now, she would have been a fool to sit there and argue with the owner or reject the gift. Cynthia showed gratitude for a price that had already been paid and she didn’t have to pay.
The passage for today’s devotion enlightens us that, we have the richness of God’s grace towards believers as emphasised by Apostle Paul. While man was dead to sin, the LORD moved to bring man to new life in Him. When a thing is dead, there is no hope to do anything with it except to bury it before it stinks. But God brought man to new spiritual life through grace and faith. Salvation is not a work of man on his own behalf, for no man can ever work for his own salvation.
Be grateful, like Cynthia in the above story for your salvation. Acknowledge the fact that your salvation is a free gift of God by grace through faith, and work of the LORD Jesus Christ. Remind others of this fact!
Insight: You were not saved by work, you were saved to work for God.
Prayer: Father help me to always acknowledge your saving grace and to work out my salvation.
