FREEDOM FROM ENEMIES

Date: Wednesday, May 04, 2022

Bible Text: 2 Samuel 22:1-7

Memory Verse: “I called to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and have been saved from my enemies.” 2 Samuel 22:4, NIV.

Enemies are people who hate you and are not interested in your well-being. Their hostile attitude towards you may not be because you did them any wrong. They may hate you just because you’re making progress in your endeavours, or because you have certain ability or privileges they don’t have. So, they may nurture envy and jealousy in their hearts towards you. If you are going to survive among them, you must not hate them in return or retaliate their actions. You ought to inculcate the wisdom of King David.

During his lifetime, King David knew enemies, many enemies. For instance, King Saul sought to kill him by all means; foreign nations also rose against him from time to time… Against all of these, King David prevailed. Today’s passage is his testimony of how he overcame his enemies. How? In one statement he answered: “I called to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and have been saved from my enemies.”

It is a normal thing to have enemies in your neighbourhood, workplace or the Church. You ought not to fear them, but rather trust in God and not seek to fight them. Engage King David’s wisdom by calling upon God. God will never fail to fight for you and give you victory like He did for David.

Insight: If you love those who hate you, God will become their enemy.

Prayer: Almighty God, Help me to love my enemies, in doing so deliver me from all evil!

RBT Passage: 1 Chronicles 17-19
