SMOOTHEN THE RUGGED PATH

Read Romans 8v18-3918 ESV:For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.

19 ESV:For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God.

20 ESV:For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope

21 ESV:that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.

22 ESV:For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now.

23 ESV:And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.

24 ESV:For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees?

25 ESV:But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

26 ESV:Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

27 ESV:And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

28 ESV:And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

29 ESV:For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

30 ESV:And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.

31 ESV:What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

32 ESV:He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?

33 ESV:Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.

34 ESV:Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.

35 ESV:Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?

36 ESV:As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”

37 ESV:No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

38 ESV:For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers,

39 ESV:nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus Our Lord.

Memorise: ESV:From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and the violent take it by force.

(Matthew 11v12)

Exposition

Discussing how to Smoothen the rugged path in the spiritual sense, isn’t out of place today? Rugged means having a rough uneven surface. It can also mean presenting a severe test of ability, stamina, and resolution. The rugged path is a backbreaking route that requires a powerful shock absorber. Journeying without the sure available shock absorber-the Word, completely breaks one down. The Word contains the guideline for the journey to heaven.

The road to heaven has always been rugged one. No road has ever been so rugged. It is increasingly difficult and dangerous by the day. In our time, the Church has gone far into the world than winning the world to her Lord. The things of God are sadly attracting less concern. This is the time when the evil of old is made active and attractive.

Trials, tribulations, pains, disappointments, etc., make the path more rugged. All these are tests of our faithfulness to God, to shape and refire is to be more resolute and stronger as we journey home. The road was tough for Abraham and other patriarchs, Peter, Paul and the early Christians. Don’t expect it to be less for you or any other (Eccl. 1v9). Due to its difficulty in treading, wisdom, determination, perseverance, grace, and help from God are indispensably needed to finsh well. You must endure the pains; it’s gains is far greater than the pains (Rom.8v18).

The rugged path leads straight home. You can’t afford to miss home, because the footprints of Our patriarchs of faith who have actually trodden in the footprints of our Saviour, Christ, are bodly engraved on it. Putting your feet in these engraved footprints will help you hold forth to the end (c.f.. 1 Cor.11v1).

Prayer points

1. Lord, help me to always set my desire on getting home the end, to meet my Saviour.

2. Pray that God will endow you with sufficient grace to tread the path of righteousness, so that you will reign with Christ.

3. Pray for thsoe who are at the verge of turning back from faith, that the Holy Spirit will help, strengthen, and hold them till the end.
