THE PRICE OF BLOOD

Read Matthew 27v1-10
1 NIV:Early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people made their plans how to have Jesus executed.
2 NIV:So they bound him, led him away and handed him over to Pilate the governor.
3 NIV:When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders.
4 NIV:“I have sinned,” he said, “for I have betrayed innocent blood.” “What is that to us?” they replied. “That’s your responsibility.”
5 NIV:So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.
6 NIV:The chief priests picked up the coins and said, “It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money.”
7 NIV:So they decided to use the money to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners.
8 NIV:That is why it has been called the Field of Blood to this day.
9 NIV:Then what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled: “They took the thirty pieces of silver, the price set on him by the people of Israel,
10 NIV:and they used them to buy the potter’s field, as the Lord commanded me.”

Memorise: NIV:The Lord said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground.
(Genesis 4v10).

Exposition
The importance of blood in the body cannot be overemphasised, even as the World Blood Donor Day is being commemorated today. It is the life of a man. A man is on dangerous alert when his blood level falls below normal, and is dead when it’s fails or draines. This is the same precious blood someone took for some pieces of silver. While another was afraid to take the life by just putting his signature (Matt.27v24), a man who happened to be Jesus close associate agreed to take it for some cash (26:14-16). The Jewswho joined Judas in taking the blood of their Saviour have not finish paying the price (27:25)! Even those who sold Jesus could not accept the money to do anything in the Temple or add it to the treasury. Why? It is an ungodly money from an ungodly business transaction.

Isn’t it funny that even some sinners know some monies are not good for the house of God? But today, God’s ministers care less about how they get money to finance God’s project and their personal wants. They just need the cash without resource to how it is gotten. Are armed robbers, kidnappers, child traffickers, embezzlers, drug peddlers, and other known criminals not celebrities in our churches, today? We even hear of gospel ministers who are ritualists, shedding blood on their altars and offering yearly human sacrifices to increase their membership, yet cover up with being philanthropic. Worthless gains are being used to construct gigantic edifices and finance church programmes and projects.
Though we may approve and applaude these here, God never does. His standard remains sure (2 Tim.2v19). Now, why is the Church more troubled than ever? Why are our enemies on our trail, chasing us out of our beautiful church buildings? How much holiness can we display in a building built with blood money? Are you indicted in any way? Instead of returning to your accomplices, like Judas, why not come to Jesus, in whom alone there are forgiveness and remission of sins? Be humble, be obedient, and surrender to Him, today.

Pray points
1. Lord Jesus, please, pardon my sins that I committed in the course of my duties to You and humanity.
2. Lord Jesus, expose tjsoe church altar in the land that are filled with the blood, in such a way that their priests would encounter You and change.
3. You blood-sucking demon ravaging our nation, die in Jesus name.
