Integrity in Service

Read 1 Samuel 12:3-5

3 Here I am; testify against me before the Lord and before his anointed. Whose ox have I taken? Or whose donkey have I taken? Or whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed? Or from whose hand have I taken a bribe to blind my eyes with it? Testify against me and I will restore it to you.”

4 They said, “You have not defrauded us or oppressed us or taken anything from any man’s hand.”

5 And he said to them, “The Lord is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that you have not found anything in my hand.” And they said, “He is witness.”

MEMORIZE: Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out. (Proverbs 10:9)

EXPOSITION

Integrity is the inner sense of wholeness derived from qualities such as honesty and consistency of character. It is the demonstration of uprightness of character, trustworthy action, and responsible commitment. Someone rightly says, “Character is how you live life when nobody is looking.” Integrity is the life style based on, and lived by the Word of God. Whatever you are called to do in life is your area of service. You are required to show uprightness, trustworthiness and be committed to it, as unto the Lord. What are you called to do? Are you the president of an association, mission and society? Are you a leader of certain group of people? Are you a civil servant, chairman of a group of companies, church minister, church worker, school teacher, gardener, gatekeeper, secretary, or employee in an office? God expect you to display honesty in your field of endeavour. That is when you honour Him with your life and endeavours.

Prophet Samuel was an anointed man of God. He asked the Israelites a crucial question that put his integrity to test. His conduct was to be reviewed during his continuance in office as judge in Israel. Even when it was common for leaders in his time to accept gifts (bribes)to buy their favours, and pervert judgement, yet he maintained his integrity (1 Sam. 12v3). He was confident of His own spotless integrity. No wonder he boldly presented himself before the Lord and the people to give account of His administration. He was vindicated because the whole nation of Israel attested to His lifestyle and leadership with integrity.

To live a life of integrity in service, be steadfast in whatever is committed into your hand. Likewise, be a straight forward person, living a life of transparency, and have a very clear and uncompromised value. Integrity is the attitude of the heart that shows who you really are. Work on your heart.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, help me henceforth to walk and work in integrity .

2. Pray that God will make you resolute in following Him to do righteously everywhere He puts you.

3. Lord, as the Governor of all nations, cause our leaders at all levels to be consumed with integrity and transparency in all they do.
