Throw the net

Read John 21:3-6
3 Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.
4 Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus.
5 Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered him, “No.”
6 He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish.

MEMORIZE: How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?(Romans 10v14)

EXPOSITION
Net is a device made from mesh of strings, cords, or ropes, generally used for trapping somethings, e.g. fish. God provided net for every Christian to work with, and He is also the One who graciously provides the sea full of fishes for a great catch. This is very true with Christian witnessing and very relevant on this day, which commemorates World Oceans Day. No Christian has any excuse for not being able to have catches as divinely appointed fishers of men. Those who are not catching fishes are those refusing to throw their net in, or ignorant of how to throw them in. Jesus commanded Peter to throw his net into the sea, and his obedience led to a great catch–the size and number he had not caught for many years, even as a professional.

The net God provides for you can be the word He puts into your mouth. Until you speak them meaningfully, and in line with His specifications, there won’t be any catch. Learn spiritual lessons from how Peter obediently threw his net into the sea because Jesus commanded it, surprisingly experienced a great catch. Eventually, Peter threw his spiritual net in the sea of the world (Act 4v4) and caught 5000 souls for the Lord, added to the Church. Several people are waiting for God’s message through you to them, and until it is preached, they will neither hear nor understand, and are deprived the opportunity to positively respond to the Gospel (Rom.10v13,14). There are not many catches being added to the Church today, because we are not throwing our nets.

Jesus command us to go and make disciples for Him (Matt.28v18ff). We must obey. Philip obeyed, and Samaria went agog for Christ (Acts.8v8), and the Ethiopian Eunuch was caught for Christ and the African Church. Employ every available strategy of evangelism and mission for the great catch. Don’t be one of the vacillating labourers; join the train and begin to rake in ripe souls for Christ, just like Apostles Paul threw his net and caught Onesimus.
