TOPIC: YOU ARE ‘GODS’ (II)

READ: Psalms 82:6; John 15:1-10

Psalms 82:6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.

John 15:1-10

[1] I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

[2] Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

[3] Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

[4] Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

[5] I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

[6] If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

[7] If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

[8] Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

[9] As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

[10] If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.

MEMORISE:

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13).

EXPOSITION

Yesterday, we established the fact that, that we are gods doesn’t mean we should deify ourselves. The truth is that man cannot live without God and make it. No matter how hard man tries to live by himself, the vacuum is in him that nothing else (money, women/men, pleasure, drinks, etc.) can fill, except God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Like the branch to the vine, we have no power of our own independent of Christ (Jn. 15:5; Phil. 4:13).

By implication, only those who are children of God through, and in our Lord Jesus have been given the right/power to be called sons/daughters of God, hence ‘gods’ (cf. Jn. 1:11,12). The mystics and other adherents/proponents of mystic religions and other forms of Eastern mysticism are only ignorant of this truth, and are fooling themselves, claiming that men are gods who can do all things themselves. Who receives anything unless he is given from above (Jn. 3:27)?

These proponents of man’s self-reliance, independent of God, have no answers, yet, for why man couldn’t create himself, and why he hasn’t been able to create another man. The truth is, everything man claims to create is are mere discoveries that God assists him to make of those things God Himself puts in nature for man. Man can never make head way independent of God. Satan is all out to deceive people into believing that they would be like God, knowing good and evil (Gen. 3:5), just like he did, our first parents. Don’t be deceived by these sons of Satan trying to unnecessarily deify man (cf. Jn. 8:44). You can only be ‘god’ by becoming God’s child through Jesus Christ. Accept Him, NOW!

PRAYER POINT:

1. Lord, help me to rely on You only, all my life.

2. I come against every satanic drive to make me lose my trust in Jesus, and Him alone.

3. Pray that ministers of the Gospel would be empowered to resist satanic push to use means other than Christ’s in the ministry.
