You are ‘Gods’ (1)
Read Psalms 82:1-2,6
1 God stands in the assembly [of the representatives] of God; in the midst of the magistrates or judges He gives judgment [as] among the gods.
2 How long will you [magistrates or judges] judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked? Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!
6 I said, You are gods [since you judge on My behalf, as My representatives]; indeed, all of you are children of the Most High.
MEMORIZE: I said, You are gods [since you judge on My behalf, as My representatives]; indeed, all of you are children of the Most High. (Psalms 82:6).
EXPOSITION
Yes, God says we are gods, but unfortunately, that is being seriously abused. Anyway, abuse is inevitable where there is lack of understanding, or misunderstanding for a thing. It is either those who abuse the idea that we are gods, as declared by God in His Word, don’t understand God’s mind for saying that, or deliberately ignore it to service their own nefarious intentions.
That we are gods doesn’t mean that we are either idols to be worshipped, or supreme/sovereign, able to do things on our own without, or independent of God (cf.Jn.15v5). The second part of that same Psa. 82v6 says …you are children of the Most High. It means that you are gods in the sense that you are children of God. You are little gods, children of the Most High God. You gods in the sense that you take after Him, being His sons/daughters. Only those who are true children of God can be called gods, and this doesn’t arrogate to them any undue rights.
As ‘gods’ (Children of God), we must take after Him, follow His leading and live immediately and ultimately to glorify Him, and Him alone. Are you a child of God by the standard of John 1v12; 3v16ff and 2 Corinthians 5v17? Then, your goal must be to be like God in Christ Jesus. In fact, that is our destiny (Rom.8v29). The idea of being little gods, taking after the nature of God, is portrayed in how the disciples were first called Christians, i.e. little Christ, in Antioch (Acts 11v26).
We are no gods by the standard and teachings of mystics and other proponents of undue self-reliance. We are gods because we take after the character of God in Christ Jesus-holiness (Heb.12v14). You must take after our Father in heaven, if you truly are His. Like begets likes!

PRAYER POINTS
1. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for puncturing the lies of thsoe wanting us to rely on self against You.
2. Lord, help me to imbibe Your character, so that everyone who sees me would always see You in all my ways.
3. Lord, break the godless influences of mystics religions, trying to turn the attention of people away from God to Satan and self.
