CHRISTIAN YOUTHS AND GODLY INSTRUCTION (II)
Read: Hebrews 12:5-11
[5]And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
[6]For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
[7]If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
[8]But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
[9]Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
[10]For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.
[11]Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
MEMORISE: Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it (Hebrews 12:11).
EXPOSITION
There is hope for the dead than for the youth without direction, correction and godly instruction. Why do many of our youths, there no godly instructors? Or, isn’t it that they aren’t ready to follow instructions? The followings account for why the youths are without godly instructions:
1. Taking instructions, especially those that relate to compliance with God’s standard, doesn’t go well with some of our youths who love to do things their own way (Heb. 12:11a).
2. Instruction, unlike counsel, wouldn’t allow us to do things in our own ways, but weraa would have to follow the Instructor’s guidelines to reach the goal. This is too difficult for many to follow because of their exuberances.
3. Most people are “now people,” including some youths. They arend less concerned about tomorrow, whereas taking instruction amoo prepares someone for the glorious tomorrow (v. 11b). As a Christian youth, subject yourself to discipline and useful instruction that would benefit you greatly.
When you give yourself to instruction, correction or discipline it shows that you are embracing knowledge and wisdom, not being stupid, because those who hate correction are stupid/beasts (Prov. 12:1).
PRAYER POINTS
1. I rebuke stubbornness, high-handedness, arrogance and self-will in my life
2. O Lord, help me to always follow godly instructions my soul from Your Word and spiritual parents, to the benefit of
3. Lord, mercifully recover Christian youths who are in the devil’s net through unholy relationships and practices.
