READ: Acts 19:17-20

[17] And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.

[18] And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.

[19] Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.

[20] So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

Also, many of those who had practiced magic brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted up the value of them, and it totaled fifty thousand pieces of silver (Acts 19:19).

After conversion, there should be genuine restitution, i.e. making necessary amends. That is what Zacchaeus, the tax collector did the other day (Lk. 19:2-9). Sadly, this is lacking among Christians today, hence the shallow quality of Christian living pervading Christendom.

The converts in Ephesus did not just confess their sins to God. They laid open their past, forgiven misdemeanour to the brethren. This would help them not to go back into such, having not hidden them from their brethren. Hiding sin is dangerous (Prov. 28:13).

Commendably, those new converts in Ephesus packed out every of Satan’s paraphernalia in their possessions, and destroyed them all (Acts 19:19). By so doing, they broke the link with the devil. You cannot be harbouring the devil’s things (charms, incisions, occult books, audios, movies and pictures, worldly music and drama, etc.) in your life and home, and expect not to be regularly, disastrously visited by the devil. Of course, where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Matt. 6:21). If the devil’s paraphernalia is with you, you must expect him to stay where his treasures are.

Are you genuinely converted? Do away with all ungodly relationships and possessions that can keep attracting the devil to your life? Playing host to the devil is like deliberately embracing very hot coals in your bosom. You know it is better imagined than experienced. Please, don’t give place to the devil (Eph. 4:27)!

1. Lord, I have totally surrendered my life to You. Please, help me to discern anything in my life that is the devil’s property in my life.

2. Lord, help me to totally do away with everything that belongs to the devil in and around my life, in Jesus’ name.

3. Intercede for Yahoo-yahoo boys/girls, that God should encounter them on their own Damascus ways before it will be too late for them.

Let Thy blessing fall on me.
