DATE: Saturday, August 27, 2022.

TOPIC: YOU ARE FREE

READ: Mark 5:1-8

[1] And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.

[2] And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,

[3] Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:

[4] Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.

[5] And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.

[6] But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,

[7] And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.

[8] For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.

MEMORISE:

Bless the LORD, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name (Psalms 103:1).

EXPOSITION

In Psalm 34:6, David described God’s saving grace upon his humble life. He was a man from a lowly background whom God located and lifted; from a shepherd boy in the wilderness to the position of a king in Israel. What an amazing grace of God! God is He Who elevates, promotes and delivers from troubles. He will free you from all the troubles of life and shackles of the enemy.

Are you sighing because of the problems in your life? The Lord will terminate all your troubles and give you relief and succour. In Exodus 2:23, the Israelites sighed when they were in bondage. Why? They were in anguish because of their taskmasters and they wanted total freedom. There is an innate desire for freedom in every human being. Even the mad man on the street wants to be free and live life to the fullest. For instance, the mad man of Gadarene in today’s reading experienced total freedom through the ministry of Jesus from His pathetic insane condition; his condition was so worse that whenever he was bound with chains, he broke them off. He wanted freedom, but couldn’t free himself from the wicked spirits that controlled him. When Jesus came around, his insanity gave way. He was delivered from the spirits that troubled him.

The same Spirit of Christ assisted David to pretend as a mad man to escape the onslaught of the wicked and demon-possessed king Saul, when he was after the young man’s life. What a divine wisdom and assistance! You will likewise be assisted by the power of the Living God. The enemy of your soul will never succeed over your life, and you are saved and free from all troubles in Jesus’ name. Amen.

HYMN FOR TODAY:
CAC GHB 587

1. Pass me not, O gentle Saviour,
Hear my humble cry;
While on others Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.

Chorus:
Saviour! Saviour! Hear my humble cry.
And while others Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.

2. Let me at a throne of mercy
Find a sweet relief;
Kneeling there in deep contrition,
Help my unbelief.

3. Trusting only in Thy merit
Would I seek Thy face;
Heal my wounded, broken spirit,
Same me by Thy grace.

4. Thou the spring of all my comfort,
More than life to me,
Whom have I on earth beside Thee?
Whom in heaven but Thee?

Amen.
