TOPIC: WRONG EXAMPLES TO AVOID (III)

READ: 2 Kings 5:20-26

[20] But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, Behold, my master hath spared Naaman this Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought: but, as the LORD liveth, I will run after him, and take somewhat of him.

[21] So Gehazi followed after Naaman. And when Naaman saw him running after him, he lighted down from the chariot to meet him, and said, Is all well?

[22] And he said, All is well. My master hath sent me, saying, Behold, even now there be come to me from mount Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets: give them, I pray thee, a talent of silver, and two changes of garments.

[23] And Naaman said, Be content, take two talents. And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of garments, and laid them upon two of his servants; and they bare them before him.

[24] And when he came to the tower, he took them from their hand, and bestowed them in the house: and he let the men go, and they departed.

[25] But he went in, and stood before his master. And Elisha said unto him, Whence comest thou, Gehazi? And he said, Thy servant went no whither.

[26] And he said unto him, Went not mine heart with thee, when the man turned again from his chariot to meet thee? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and oliveyards, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and maidservants?

MEMORISE:

Now he went in and stood before his master. Elisha said to him, where did you go, Gehazi? And he said to him, your servant did not go anywhere! (2 Kings 5:25)

EXPOSITION

It is very dangerous to prove we are smarter than God. This was the mistake of Gehazi, the personal assistant of Prophet Elisha. Shall He Who created the eyes not see? Or hear, Who created the ears? A lie is a statement that deviates from the truth. Lying is a deliberate act of such that is meant to mislead one from the Way, Truth and the Life-JESUS. It was the brainchild and creation of Satan (In.8:44). Lying has become fashionable in our time, especially, among the people of God and the clergy. We brazenly equate our Faith with domestic lies. Some try to justify themselves, saying that after all, father Abraham lied in the matter of his wife, Sarah. They are ignorant. Abraham didn’t lie. Sarah was actually his sister, a cousin. Sadly, so many of us falsify information about our ages, careers, communal relationships, marriages, tithes, offerings, civic and spiritual responsibilities, etc. May God save us.

Lying is one of those terrible satanic natures we are advised to put off as Christians (Eph. 5:22-25; Col. 3:9). Had Gehazi as well as Ananias and Saphira known the serious implications of their masterly deceptions, maybe they would have reconsidered their actions before they executed it.

Don’t joke with God! Lying is a weighty and dangerous sin before him, just like others. In the final words of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to His Church in Revelation 21:8 and 22:15, He makes it very clear that all liars, that is all those who love and make lies, shall have their part in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone-the second death. Repent today before it is too late.

PRAYER POINT:

1. Acknowledge God’s faithfulness to His people and covenant, and ask for His grace to follow suit.

2. Repent of all lies, and ask God for forgiveness.

3. Rebuke and curse every spirit and tongue of lying to dry loup. Receive a sanctified tongue that speaks the truth always.

HYMN FOR THE DAY:
CAC GHB 791

1. Be loyal to the master
Who gave His life to you
In peril and disaster
Be faithful, brave and true

Be loyal to Jesus
Uphold His banner ev’ry where
Be loyal to Jesus
Be strong in Him to do and dare
When fierce the battle rages
Just trust the God of ages
Good serving bring
His glory sing
Be loyal to your king

2. Be loyal where He needs you
Thro sunshine or thro rain
And follow where He leads you
In pleasure on in plain.

3. Half hearted measures scorning
Stand steadfast in His might
And help to bring the morning
The day with vict’ry bright.

4. Be loyal though around you
The pow’rs of evil throng
His angel guards sorround you
His strength shall be your song

Amen.
