Bible Text: Matthew 18:1-6
Memory Verse: “Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:1, NIV
Children are loving, peaceful, simple, gentle and humble. These attributes in children often make them to be friendly and favoured by people. A natural child has the mind to relate with anyone at anywhere and at any time. They don’t keep grudges or seek to harm anyone, and depend totally on their caregivers.
A discussion ensued among the followers of Jesus on the pathway to greatness in Heaven (vs. 1). Jesus responded to them in a shocking way by using a little child as a yardstick (vs. 2). He told them that anyone who would make heaven must be like a little child (vs. 3). He emphasised the need for a change from being adulthood to becoming a child. The crux of this analogy is premised on the need to be humble. This also calls for total dependence on God.
Humility is the way to greatness in life and one of the indices to make heaven. God detests proud people but love and promote humble people. Are you a proud person? Proud people often brag about what they think they can do by themselves and not what God can do for them. Beloved! Humble yourself if you want to be great and make heaven.
Insight: Humility kills pride and arrogance.
Prayer: God, deliver me from the spirit of pride.
