HAMAN KILLS HIMSELF

Read: Esther 7:1-10

[1]So the king and Haman came to banquet with Esther the queen.
[2]And the king said again unto Esther on the second day at the banquet of wine, What is thy petition, queen Esther? and it shall be granted thee: and what is thy request? and it shall be performed, even to the half of the kingdom.
[3]Then Esther the queen answered and said, If I have found favour in thy sight, O king, and if it please the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request:
[4]For we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. But if we had been sold for bondmen and bondwomen, I had held my tongue, although the enemy could not countervail the king’s damage.
[5]Then the king Ahasuerus answered and said unto Esther the queen, Who is he, and where is he, that durst presume in his heart to do so?
[6]And Esther said, The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman. Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen.
[7]And the king arising from the banquet of wine in his wrath went into the palace garden: and Haman stood up to make request for his life to Esther the queen; for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king.
[8]Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman was fallen upon the bed whereon Esther was. Then said the king, Will he force the queen also before me in the house? As the word went out of the king’s mouth, they covered Haman’s face.
[9]And Harbonah, one of the chamberlains, said before the king, Behold also, the gallows fifty cubits high, which Haman had made for Mordecai, who had spoken good for the king, standeth in the house of Haman. Then the king said, Hang him thereon.
[10]So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king’s wrath pacified.

MEMORISE: So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king’s wrath subsided (Esther 7:10).

EXPOSITION
Man is bound to face different life challenges in life, including from haters (cf. Matt. 10:36), hence the need to be battle-ready. God’s Word urges us to learn the act of spiritual warfare (Jas. 4:7; 1 Pet. 5:8,9).

In today’s text, Haman exalted himself against God’s people, moved and motivated by the devil to waste every Jew under the Persian empire. Haman’s hatred of the Jews stemmed from him resenting a Jewish gateman, Mordecai, a slave who refused to accord to Haman the glory due YAHWEH. Haman planned to kill him and the entire Jews in the kingdom (Est. 3:1-6). Mordecai would only worship God, not that Agagite (cf. 1 Sam 15:8,9; Est. 3:1). Haman did everything possible to bring his wicked plot to pass, including, paying money for the lives of the Jews, into the treasury, so that the deed would be carried out speedily. An adage in Yoruba translates, “With the sword of a tortoise you kill it.” Thank God, Haman’s plot hatched on his own head, because on the same pole he planted for Mordecai to be hanged, he was eventually hunged. He died shamefully, and all other evil plotters with him. God’s people were victorious and celebrated, because they saw the end of their enemies.

Enemies cannot succeed against those who trust in God (Psa. 125:1), and it is always a bitter experience for anyone who chooses to the people of God for no just cause. Anyone who asks any child of God to go into captivity will go into captivity (Rev. 13:10). Provided you are on the Lord’s side, your Haman will kill himself. However, do not play the Haman on anyone, to avoid the suicidal game as played by Haman, even as the World commemorates World Suicide Prevention Day. You are more than the conqueror, in Jesus’ name.

PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, let it please You to speedily deliver me from the evil plots of the devil.
2. Lord, don’t allow my life to be wasted by haters.
3. O Lord, give Your Church the reason to rejoice over all the enemies of the gospel.

HYMN FOR TODAY: CAC GHB 845
1. Fight the good fight with all thy might:
Christ is thy strength, and Christ thy right;
Lay hold on life, and it shall be
Thy joy and crown eternally.

2. Run the straight race through
God’s good grace
Lift up thine eyes, and seek his face;
Life with its path before us lies;
Christ is the way, and Christ the prize.

3. Cast care aside; and on thy Guide
Lean, and his mercy will provide,
Lean, and the trusting soul shall prove
Christ is its life, and Christ its love.

4. Faint not, nor fear; his arm is near;
He changeth not, and thou art dear;
Only believe, and thou shalt see
That Christ is all in all to thee.

Amen.
