CHRIST APOSTOLIC CHURCH LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2022.
A GOOD SHEPHERD
Read John 10v11-14
11 NIV:“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
12 NIV:The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it.
13 NIV:The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.
14 NIV:“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me
NIV:“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
A typical Shepard will lead forththe flock from pen, in the morning, march them to the spot where they will be pastured, watch them all day, and make sure that none of them strays; if any of his sheep goes astray, He seeks diligently till he finds it. He supplies water, and feeds them well. At night, He brings them back to the fold, counts, to make sure none is missing.
The world Shepard is used figuratively to present the relation of rulers to their subjects, and of God to His people. Jesus is the good Shepard who laid down His life for His sheep. The sheep are the redeemed of the Lord, thsoe who have been called out of darkness to the marvellous light of God. A good shepherd is any follower of Christ who leads others in the right direction. Hence, husbands, wives, heads of department and organizations , kings, etc., can be good shepherds. In one way or the other, we are leading God’s people.
Dear devout, how is the flock of God in your care? Are you being a good father towards your children God gives you? How are you nurturing the sheep of God in your care as a Mother? Are you monitoring them closely to make sure none of them strays into the hands of wolves? What about the Church of Christ, redeemed with His blood and committed into your hands? Are you safeguarding and feeding appropriately? In whatever capacity you are serving, you are there as a shepherd; do it diligently to help people grow unto maturity. When the chief Shepard shall appear, you shall receive a crown of glory that fades not. Are you a good shepherd? Your fruit shows who you are!
