TOPIC: GETTING THROUGH THE STORM

READ: Isaiah 43:1-6

[1] But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.

[2] When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

[3] For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee.

[4] Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life.

[5] Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west;

[6]. I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth;

MEMORISE:

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you (Isaiah 43:2).

EXPOSITION

A Yoruba adage translates, The whirlwind, as hard-hitting as it is, can never spill away the water inside the coconut.” The coconut tree is believed to be very protective of its fruits. Unlike other trees, the palm tree doesn’t resist or fight the whirlwind or storms but bends for it. The palm tree knows that the whirlwind is momentary and not everlastingly or permanent. The lesson here is that don’t act foolishly when turbulent times strike. Be wise in God, not to fight what you cannot overpower by any human logic, lest your proverbial coconut fruits ripped off due to overwhelming concerns and stress.

Anytime the whirlwind or storms of life billow against your rising efforts through people’s wanton accusations, misconstruing of your person, or a misjudgement of your potentials, don’t waste your time fighting back through arrogant display of attitudes and stupid arguements. Once you start doing that, you are empowering your opponent with tools, unaware, to waste your attributes, gifts, resourcefulness, and talents. Be calm and bend low your ego under their envious radar like the coconut tree does before the whirlwind. And once their raging storms subside, your head will be raised again, exceedingly and above their bewildered watch; and you will still have your illustrious coconut fruits with you, ready to hit the market that is already waiting for your products. Never take the presence of the Storm in your life to indicate the absence of God. God says, When you pass through the waters (storms of life), I will be with you (Isa. 43:1-2).
