CAC LIVING WATER DEVOTIONAL FOR SEPTEMBER 7, 2022 : TOPIC – SIR, WE WISH TO SEE JESUS

CHRIST APOSTOLIC CHURCH THE LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE

DATE: Wednesday, September 7, 2022.

TOPIC: SIR, WE WISH TO SEE JESUS

READ: John 12:20-26

[20] And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:

[21] The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.

[22] Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.

[23] And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.

[24] Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

[25] He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

[26] If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

MEMORISE:

The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and indeed, a greater than Solomon is here (Luke 11:31).

EXPOSITION

In the days of John the Baptist, people thronged to the wilderness, seeking the baptism of repentance unto good works (Matt. 11:7-10). Likewise during Jesus’ earthly ministry, some visitors, who came to Jerusalem for the annual Feast of Passover, met Philip, asking to see Jesus: Sir, we wish to see Jesus.

Nicodemus, Zacchaeus, Herod the tetrarch, Jesus’ mother and brothers, the women at the tomb, and the crowd that was miraculously fed in the wilderness, all sought to see Jesus, though for the good of their earthly living. Even in this political power-seeking and wealth-driven world, people use Jesus’ name for their religious bigotry, social activism, and selfish end. But the truth remains that Jesus Christ, when sought after, according to the Scripture, gives salvation to lost souls and unlimited access to God Almighty. This was Jesus’ message to those Greeks seeking to see Him, when He told them the proverb of a grain of wheat in verses 23-26, which is a metaphor of His death, burial in the tomb and resurrection for the saving of human.

Dear reader, on what ground are you seeking Jesus? Is it as a Faith-Healer, a Miracle-Worker, Wealth-Enhancer, or a great Philosopher? Come, desire to see Jesus as the only Saviour you need from the dominion of sin, Satan’s deceit, and eternal damnation. Surrender your heart and ego to Him today, that you may gain eternal life and begin to walk in God’s purpose for your life.

2. Pray that the Holy Spirit will provoke a thirst for Christ in the hearts of sinners everywhere.

3. Pray that God will break the grip of Satan and his cohorts over the lives of our leaders everywhere, so that they will begin to seek Christ’s counsel in their decision-making.

HYMN FOR TODAY:
CAC GHB VAR 14

1. As I journey thro’ the land singing as I go
Pointing souls to calvary-to the crimson flow,
Many arrows pierce my soul from without, within;
But my Lord leads me on, through him I must win
Oh, I want to see Him, look upon His face
There to sing for ever of His saving grace
On the streets of glory let me lift my voice;
Cares all past, home at last, ever to rejoice.

2. When in service for my Lord, dark may be the night
But I’ll cling more close to him,He will give me light
Satan’s snares may vex my soul, turn My thought aside;
But my Lord goes ahead, leads what’er betide

3. When in valleys low I look towards the mountain height,
And behold my Saviour there, leading in the fight.
With a tender hand outreached
Towards the valley low,
Guiding me, I can see, as I onward go.

4. When before me billows rise from the mighty deep,
Then my Lord directs my barque,
He doth safely keep,
And He leads me gently on through
This world below,
He’s a real Friend to me, oh, I Love Him so.

Amen.
