PASSAGE: 1 CORINTHIANS 3:1-4

PRAYER: Father, deliver Your Church from the works of the flesh such as envy, strife and disunity; and nourish us with Your Word of truth, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
God created humanity to develop, be fruitful, multiply and replenish the earth. (Gen.1: 28). The Church was instituted for spiritual growth by allowing the Word of God to mix with faith in the heart of members. Unfortunately, some members today remain babes in faith, all because they are carnally- minded.
The Church in Corinth was supposed to grow in faith with the simplicity of the Word of God preached to them by Paul, but they did not grow because they treated the Church like political parties where members cling to personalities for personal gain. The two principal leaders of the Church were Paul, who planted the Church, and Apollos who watered it in faith through the teaching of the Word of God.
The growth of the Church was stunted because of envy, strife and division, which made their worship not to be acceptable to God and this denied them of the impartation and inspiration of the Holy Spirit. The church engaged in acts that wrecked the faith of many of them.
As it was in the Corinthian church of old, envy, strife, sectarianism, etc are ravaging the body of Christ today. All these works of the flesh do not make members achieve spiritual maturity. There is prejudice in the Church and if it is not dealt with, in the power of the Holy Spirit, disciples of Christ will continue to be fewer in number, though there may be many worshippers in places of worship! Even in some well-established and rapidly growing churches all over the world today, some of them are empty of the Word of truth though they sing and dance beautifully! They behave like the Church in Corinth! Therefore, if you want to be spiritually mature, avoid all works of the flesh and embrace the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-26).
