LIVING BY THE WORD

Date: Thursday, September 01, 2022

Bible Text: Matthew 4:1-11

Memory Verse: “Jesus answered, ‘It is written: “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4, NIV

Many children love bread, especially when it is soft. When they are famished, they will not hesitate to take several loaves of bread because they believe their survival at such times depend on it. Interestingly, some will even take bread without tea, and some had even been deceived by pedophiles because of their love for bread.

Jesus Christ was famished after He had fasted for forty days and forty nights (vs. 2) and the devil thought he could use the opportunity of His hunger to get at Him. Good enough, Jesus did not only understand that His survival for life and ministry was dependent on the Word of God, He also affirmed it to the devil. Jesus did not allow His hunger make Him lose his memory of and application of the Word of God to His daily living. He confronted the devil and won.

Challenges of life will definitely come. However, it is expedient you do not allow challenges of life sweep you off your feet. Instead, just as Jesus did, you should confront each challenge you face with the truth of the Word of God and you will experience victory.

Insight: The Word of God is the most potent tool to combat the devil.

Prayer: LORD, may I always find the help I need in your Word.

RBT Passage: Ezekiel 25-27
