Memory Verse: ‘Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.’ Jeremiah 1:5, NIV
To solve the puzzle posed by life, many seek answers to these age-old questions: “Who am I?” “Why am I here?” “What is life about?” Finding answers to these questions bring a sense of fulfilment, meaning, and significance to life.
God told Jeremiah that even before his formation in the womb, He knew Jeremiah, set him apart and appointed him as a prophet to the nations. The word “knew” is a relational term that indicates an intimacy between the knower and the known. To be known carries the idea of being chosen on purpose. God rebuked Jeremiah for his feeling of inadequacy and excuse of inexperience to perform the divine task. Instead, God assured Jeremiah of the backing of His presence and protection. He then placed his equipping Word of power in Jeremiah’s mouth.
God’s decision to use you for His glorious purpose came before your conception, signifying that your birth was intended and significance. Before you were born, there has been a divine involvement, love, care, and concern for your life and a specific purpose that God intends for you to fulfil while on earth. Regardless of your fears and feelings of inadequacy, trust in the LORD and obey Him.
Insight: You become more alive each day when you find your purpose in God.
Prayer: O LORD, Enlighten me concerning your specific purpose for my life.
