PASSAGE: ROMANS 7: 1-6

MEMORY VERSE: Galatians 5:22 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; Against such there is no law.”

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help me to bear only the fruits that bring honour and the edification to Your church here on earth, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
A young man who served his master as a business apprentice on the completion of years of service was celebrated by his master. He was given a huge sum of money with which he would begin his own business in the vicinity. But instead of establishing his business in the same environment, he decided to relocate to a different state and started his business there. This young man’s action was possible only because he was a liberated person who was no longer under the control of his master. As a result he had the liberty to structure his business the way he wanted it.
The above illustration points to the fact that a man who is under the law is bound by the law. This means that he has no will of his own and cannot do anything outside the law or else the law will catch up with him.
Likewise, those who have been redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus are now free from the danger of the law. This is because 2Conrithians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” We must know that this new life of freedom does not guarantee us to live a reckless life, but helps us exhibit self-control and discipline so that grace can speak for us when we err and are reprimanded by the Holy Spirit.
As we celebrate the independence of Nigeria today, know that liberation from Satan to living a life in Jesus Christ is to allow one to bear kingdom fruits of love, self-control, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness (Galatians 5:22) instead of being in the flesh that brings death. Christ chose and liberated us to bear fruits and that our fruits might remain (John 15:16). How fruitful are you?
