TOPIC: True Love

MEMORISE: Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 1 John 4:10

READ: 1 Corinthians 13:1-8

  1. Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
  2. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
  3. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
  4. Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
  5. Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
  6. Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
  7. Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
  8. Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Thessalonians 3:1-18, Jeremiah 3-4

MESSAGE:

True love is God. You can never define love outside God. The Bible says that from the beginning, God has loved mankind. This love moved Him to send His only Begotten Son to die for the sins of the world.

Our Bible passage for today lists the characteristics of love. Love is kind, patient, enduring, not boastful, does not envy, does not seek after his own which means, love is not selfish. Check out all the characteristics in that boy or girl that claims to be in love with you. For instance, if he/she cannot respect your wish to remain pure until your wedding night, he/she is selfish and also not patient; in order words, he/she does not truly love you. If the fellow brags to you about what his/her parents have, he/she does not love you. If he/she wants to see you at odd hours and in secluded places against your parents orders, he/she is selfish and does not love you.

Don’t be carried away by infatuations or feelings. What you should concentrate on at this stage is your education and things that will make your life beautiful, most importantly, your relationship with God – the true Lover of all.

KEY POINT:

True love is God.

HYMN: What A Friend We Have In Jesus

  1. What a friend we have in Jesus,
    All our sins and griefs to bear;
    What a privilege to carry
    Ev’rything to God in prayer
    Oh! what peace we often forfeit,
    Oh! what needless pain we bear
    All because we do not carry
    Everything to God in prayer.
  2. Have we trials and temptations?
    Is there trouble anywhere?
    We should never be discouraged,
    Take it to the Lord in prayer
    Can we find a Friend so faithful
    Who will all our sorrow share?
    Jesus knows our every weakness,
    Take it to the Lord in prayer.
  3. Are we weak and heavy laden,
    Cumbered with a load of care?
    Precious Saviour still our refuge,
    Take it to the Lord in prayer
    Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
    Take it to the Lord in prayer
    In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
    Thou wilt find a solace there.
