THIRST FOR GOD

Date: Monday, October 03, 2022

Bible Text: Psalm 63:1-8

Memory Verse: “You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. Psalms 63:1, NIV

A. W. Tozer said, “It is not intellectual knowledge about God that quenches man’s ancient heart thirst but the very Person and Presence of God Himself. These come to us through Christian doctrine, which is more than ideology. Christian truth is intended to lead us to God, not to serve as a substitute for God.”

The psalmist sees God as his God. Our longing for God should be personal and consistent. Dependence on Him reveals absolute reliance for the fulfilment of His purpose for one’s life. The word ‘Thirst’ was used to describe the importance and passion for knowing the LORD (Psalm 63:1). Humankind can do without food for certain days but not without water. Just as water is important to humans, so should be our longing for God. A believer should strive to know and understand the Word of God through the help of the Holy Spirit. We should make studying and meditating on the Word of God as important as the water we drink daily, which is necessary for our survival.

Begin today by making Him your LORD and Master and seeking Him more diligently in your schedule for regular study and prayer. If God is not yet your primary focus in life, know that God is the God of a second chance. Come to Him today, and He will not cast you away (Matthew 11:28-30).

Insight: Let your heart pant after God and His Word.

Prayer: LORD Jesus, cause me to long after You at all times.

RBT Passage: Matthew 5-6
