I WAIT PATIENTLY FOR THE LORD (1)
Read: Psalm 40:1-10
[1](To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.) I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.
[2]He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
[3]And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
[4]Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
[5]Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.
[6]Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.
[7]Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,
[8]I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.
[9]I have preached righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have not refrained my lips, O LORD, thou knowest.
[10]I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation.
MEMORISE: I waited patiently for the LORD; He turned to me and heard my cry (Psalm 40:1).
EXPOSITION
David was a man who was given the grace to get to a very enviable old age before being taken home. He lived to see his children and children’s children. Wonderful. What a privilege! Yet, he was a man who went through turbulence in life. May be that is the essence of the wise saying that translates, “You must go for one: to be live long here on earth, or to live trouble-free life.”
Another good thing about David is that, he had several testimonies of victories, undoubtedly occasioned by the LORD. The intensity of your testimony is determined by the gravity of your test. David was a man who trusted the LORD, though he wasn’t a flawless man, like any one of us. One of such evidences of trusting God is what we are looking at in our devotional dose for today, i.e. in Psalm 40 where David insisted that he had waited on the LORD in the past, and this would make him wait on Him again and again. Lines 1-10 of the Psalm show how David had waited on the LORD in the past. Can you sing this song: When I think of the goodness of Jesus, and all He has done for me…? You can never be more grateful than the level of your meditation on the goodness/faithfulness of the Lord to you and others. Not having deep thought, regularly, about what God has done is bad. Your thinking well and praising God for your past experiences with Him guarantee your future success and joy in Him.
As you go out today, be provoked into deep thought about the goodness and faithfulness of the Lord with respect to your life and every other person/thing around you. You would be doing yourself a whole lot of good, receiving God’s blessings that accompany His praise upon your life in spectacular ways.

1. Sing songs of praise and thanksgiving to God for His faithfulness to you and everything that is yours.
2. Lord, help me to be a deep thinker with respect to Your goodness to me.
3. You spirit of ingratitude, out of my life, right now, in Jesus’ name.
