LESSON ONE (01)

TOPIC: SALVATION 

BIBLE TEXT: Rom. 10:9-10, Acts 4:12

Romans 10:9-10

[9]That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

[10]For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Acts 4:12

[12]Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

MEMORY VERSE: Romans 10:9. "That if thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shall be saved".

LESSON AIM: To get the unsaved become saved while the saved takes a bold step in knowing and operating in the benefits of salvation.

INTRODUCTION: We learn words more by associating them with other W words. Lola, grew up in an environment where they hardly went to church nor was she conversant with church terminologies. One particular word which caused her much confusion was the word "salvation". She really could not connect with it since her father worked at a salvag company. So she figured salvation had to do with claiming something that was broken and messed up and then somehow reselling it for a bit of profit. Well turns out she was pretty close. Salvation simply is defined as "deliverance from sin and its consequences" Romans 6:17-18. Once you are saved, you become a new creature in Christ. 2 Corinth 5:17. Why do you need salvation? How can you get truly saved? What benefits are there for you in salvation? These and more we will be discussing in this study.

A. WHY DO I NEED SALVATION? Gen 3:1-24

i. The human race was ruined as a result of the sin of Adam. Gen 3:10-13

ii. Sin separated man from God since the fall of Adam. Gen 3:23-24

iii. No animal sacrifice can restore man to God. Heb 10:5

iv. Jesus proved to be the only way to restore man to God. John 14:6. Acts 4:12

B. HOW CAN SOMEONE GET SAVED? Rom 10:9-10

i. Acknowledge you are a sinner and Repent from it

ii. Believe in your heart that Jesus is the son of God who came in the human flesh, died, buried and resurrected. And is seated at the right hand of the father

iii. Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord of your life

C. HINDRANCES TO SALVATION.

i. Ignorance Hosea 4:6

ii. Pride and arrogance Prov. 29:23

iii. Fear and shame Rom 1:16

D. BENEFITS OF SALVATION:

i. Redemption. Salvation is a complete package which includes being redeemed in Christ - complete in Christ (Col 2:10). Redeemed from sin (Col 2:11-14), Redeemed from bondage (Col 2:14-15), Redeemed from sickness (1 Pet 2:24), Redeemed from fear (1 John 4:18), Redeemed from poverty, failure etc.

ii. Relationship with God - Sons of God. John 1:12; 1 John 3:1-2

iii. Peace of mind Philippians 4:7

iv. Eternity in Heaven John 3:16-18

E. FRAGRANCE OF SALVATION (Salvation lifestyle).

Now that you have been saved, you are expected to:

i. Live and demonstrate the lifestyle of a new creature in Christ (2 Corinth 5:17). In speech (Col 4:6), conduct/character (1 Tim 4:12), 1 John 3:9 etc.

ii. Grow in your faith walk in Christ (study His word Jos 1:8; Ps 1:2-3, pray in the Spirit Jude 1:20, fellowship with the brethren Heb 10:25).

iii. Understand your rights and privileges as a son of God and USE them!!!

iv. Be an example for others to emulate Matt 5:16

v. Go and win others to Christ Mark 16:15-18

CONCLUSION: Whether you've accepted Jesus into your heart recently or you have been a Christian your whole life, the most important thing you can do from here is to grow your faith walk with Him. Understand your rights and privileges as a son of God and step into it.

LESSON TWO (02)

TOPIC: SANCTIFICATION

BIBLE TEXT: 2 Tim. 2:21, Lev. 20:7-8

2 Timothy 2:21

MEMORY VERSE: "Sanctify them by the truth, your word is truth". John 17:17 (KJV)

LESSON AIM: To teach the children in Christ what sanctification means and how to live a sanctified life.

INTRODUCTION: Every great house has got several vessels of gold, silver, ceramic, wood and earth. Some of these vessels are to honor and some to dishonor irrespective of the make. Only purged (cleaned) vessels are unto honor, sanctified, appropriate for the masters' use and equally prepared unto good works. Sanctification literally means "to set apart for special use or purpose", that is to make holy or sacred. Irrespective of how expensive and "good" a vessel may be, if it is not purged (cleaned) it can't qualify to be set apart. Sanctification demonstrates the urgency to be emptied out of anything that impairs against being a useful vessel for Gods glory. Sanctification is known as the second work of grace in the New Testament. Therefore, the objective of every believer should be to hastily pursue sanctification.

i) It means to make holy or set apart Exodus 29:44

ii) It is making truly and perfectly what was defiled and sinful Colossians 2:13

It is gradual cleansing from a corrupt nature to a spotless nature John 15:3; Jude 24

iv) It is a progressive work of grace Romans 3:24

B. WHY SANCTIFICATION?

i. God is holy and demands holiness from mankind. 1 Peter 1:16; Lev 20:26

ii. It is the only requirement to see God. Heb. 12:14

iii. It sets one apart for special use. 2 Tim2:21

C. FRAGRANCE OF SANCTIFICATION.

This simply means the lifestyle of a sanctified person

i. To live holy (Leviticus 11:44)

ii. To be bonded to Christ (Romans 8:35)

iii.To walk straight and transparent in all your dealings (Psalm 15:2)

iv. To live by the standard of God's word (Ps 119:11)

v. To live peaceably with all men (Rom 12:18; Heb. 12:14)

D. BENEFITS OF LIVING A SANCTIFIED LIFE: You enjoy special privileges in Christ such as:

i. A closer relationship with God

ii. Free of accusations Rev 12:10

iii. Being led in all you do Isa 30:21

iv. God reveals secrets to you 1 Corinthians 2:10

E. HOW DOES SANCTIFICATION HAPPEN?

i. Sanctification results from the supernatural presence and power of the Holy Spirit working in a Christian's life. Gal 5:22-26; Eph. 3:20; 2 Corinth 12:9-10. It requires a change of heart and an alignment of your will with Gods will. Rom. 6:19

ii. By the Word of God. John 17:17,

iii. By the Blood of Jesus. Heb. 13:12,

iv. By chastisement. Heb. 12:10-11

v. By yielding to God. Romans 6:19

vi. By ourselves. 2 Cor. 7:1

CONCLUSION: We have a part in sanctification; our part is seeking out the sin, judging it; casting it away; praying for cleansing; praying for strength to live a holy life. Daily we must appropriate Christ as our sanctification; daily we must claim His holiness, His faith, His love and His grace. The secret of a holy life is the continuous appropriation of the Savior's holy life. Our degree of sanctification is in relation too rappropriation of the Lord.

TOPIC: THE SANCTIFIER: GOD

BIBLE TEXT: 1 Thessalonians 4:3-7.

[3]For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:

[4]That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;

[5]Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:

[6]That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.

[7]For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.

And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

LESSON AIM: To enable teenagers know God's role in Sanctification.

CENTRAL TRUTH: God has a role to play in our Sanctification.

INTRODUCTION: The concept of sanctification refers to the process of being made holy or set apart for God's purposes. This concept emphasizes God's role in sanctifying believers. It acknowledges that sanctification is ultimately a work of God, through the Holy Spirit, who transforms believers into the likeness of Christ and empowers them to live holy lives. This concept emphasizes the ongoing process of spiritual growth and transformation in the lives of believers.

C. HOW DOES GOD SANCTIFY US?

1. By sending His son Jesus to fulfill His will Heb 10:9-10; 2 Pet 3:9.... not willing that any should perish... (As followers of Christ "we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all").

ii. By the truth which is the word of God John 17:17 "we are sanctified by the truth, thy word is truth"

iii. Through a change change of heart by the Holy Spirit working in our life Gal 5:24-25

iv. By dwelling constantly in His presence (Prayers) Jude 1:24-25

CONCLUSION: The purpose of God for our lives is for us to be sanctified, that is to become more like the Image of His perfect son - Jesus Christ. This is not done through our determination, resolve, will power or strength BUT by the Holy Spirit as we yield our lives to His control and are filled with Him.

TOPIC: THE SANCTIFIER: JESUS

BIBLE TEXT: 2 Corinthians 3:18; Ephesians 1:7-10

MEMORY VERSE: Eph. 5:26, "That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word".

LESSON AIM: To help the young adult appreciate the person of Jesus as our sanctifier.

INTRODUCTION: Christ took on human flesh to save and to sanctify us from the power of sin. Since His Word demands holiness in those who claim to be His disciples, it is reasonable to believe that He has also made it possible to live a holy life. When Christ died on the cross, He provided for man's sanctification (Hebrews 10:10, 14). Jesus' death on the cross, the shedding of His blood, provided eternal sanctification for those who believe and accept the provision (Hebrews 13:12). The study helps us appreciate the person of Jesus, the attributes/character of Jesus and how Jesus sanctifies the believer.

C. HOW DOES JESUS SANCTIFY US? 2 Corinthians 3:18

i. By the Truth (which is His word) John 17:17 says we are sanctified by the truth which is the word of God. We are redeemed in Him Eph 1:7

ii. By we believing (having faith) in His finished work on the cross

iii. By beholding on Christ as our mirror 2 Corinthians 3:18

CONCLUSION: We are called to be like Jesus (Romans 8:29, 1 John 3:3). Rather than commanding us to imitate Him, the New Testament reveals a truth more profound and dynamic. The New Testament teaches that the life of Christ can be lived in and through us (Galatians 2:20). Jesus Himself indwells us by His Holy Spirit and lives out His life in and through us.

LESSON FIVE (05)

TOPIC: THE SANCTIFIER: HOLY SPIRIT

BIBLE TEXTS: 2 Thessalonians 2:13; John 14:16-17

MEMORY VERSE: 2 Thess. 2:13; "But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because God chose you as first fruits to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth".

LESSON AIM & OBJECTIVES: To understand the person of the Holy Spirit and His works in sanctifying the believer.

INTRODUCTION: The Holy Spirit is a person and as a Christian, we need to know that the Holy Spirit has been a part of the Trinity of God since the beginning of time. The believers at Ephesus were aware of their need to live a better life, but they were not aware of the power of the Holy Spirit to enable them to do so. Their experience demonstrates the truth that without the Holy Spirit we cannot please God. Thus, without the Holy Spirit we are incomplete Christians. In fact, Scripture tells us in John 4:24, "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." To know the Holy Spirit is to know the characteristics of the Holy Spirit.

i. THE HOLY SPIRIT IS PERSONAL

1. The Holy Spirit Is Personal (John 16:13-14) from this scripture, "He" is used and the personal pronoun He is used 6 additional times to describe what He will do.

2. The Holy Spirit is neither an impersonal force nor a mere influence; rather, He possesses a full and distinct personality.

3. He is the direct agent between heaven and earth in this gospel age

ii. THE HOLY SPIRIT IS PARTICULAR (Deity)

a. The Holy Spirit is none less than God Himself because, He is omnipresent,

b. The Holy Spirit also possesses eternity, which only Deity possesses. He is called "the eternal Spirit" in Heb 9:14. The Holy Spirit is omniscient, a characteristic of God which means He knows all things actual and possible whether past, present, or future. 'The Apostle Paul eludes this in 1 Corinth 2:11b

c. The Holy Spirit is also omnipotent or all-powerful; a quality of deity, which means God, is all-powerful and can do anything that is consistent with His nature. Luke 1:35

d. Divine Works are ascribed to the Holy Spirit: Some of these works are creation as mentioned in Gen 1:2; the giving of life as mentioned in John 6:63, prophecy as mentioned in 2 Pet 1:21), and the Making of disciples as mentioned in Matt 28:19-20.

iii. THE HOLY SPIRIT IS POWERFUL (God's Agent on Earth)

iv. THE PROMISE OF THE FATHER.

B. CHARACTER OF HOLY SPIRIT THE SANCTIFIER John 14:16

i. Comforter (Counselor, Helper Rom 8:26, Intercessor Rom 8:26-28, Advocate, Strengthener Eph 3:16 and Standby) John 14:16.

ii. Friend 2 Corinth 13:14.

iii. Teacher John 14:26

iv. He Guides us into all truth Rom 8:14; John 16:8-13

v. He glorifies Jesus John 16:14

vi. He produces good fruits in our lives Gal 5:22-23

C. HOW THE HOLY SPIRIT SANCTIFY US?

i. Through the Word of God; the Holy Spirit will convict us through the Word of God. John 16:8

ii. Through other people. "The Holy Spirit uses other people to build your character."

iii. Through Circumstances "Circumstances - so we can test and exercise our faith." All these will allow us to conform in the image and likeness of God. It will cleanse the attitude of our hearts." 2 Corinthians 3:18

CONCLUSION: The Work of the Holy Spirit is to sanctify us. Thus, without the Holy Spirit we are incomplete Christians "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." John 4:24. To know the Holy Spirit is to know the characteristics of the Holy Spirit. 2 Thessalonians 2:13.
