TOPIC: BROAD WAY CHRISTIANITY
Read Matthew 7:13-14
[13]Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
[14]Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
MEMORISE: Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it (Matthew 7:13)
EXPOSITION
Jesus described the broad way as the way of many in religion. This proclaims the fact of many and varied religions of the world, which are false, and led to destruction (eternity in hell fire). The gate of carnal lusts, and worldly pleasures, stands widely open, and many desire to go in there; the way of the ungodly is “broad”, smooth, easy deceitfully attractive, and every way agreeable to the flesh; it takes in a large compass of vices, and has in it abundance of company. The broad way Christianity may be described as the religion of the multitude. It is not to think as others think or follow the fashion, and swim with the stream of those among whom we live.
You can know them by their fruits which include religious without genuine repentance; Church going without a change of life and character; Idolatry and immortality; Stealing and cheating; Fighting and hatred; Waywardness and rebellion; Lying and dishonesty; Worldliness and cares of this life.
There is the need for heart searching and honest self-examination as you read this devotion today. Which way am I going? By what road am I travelling? May God give us an honest, self-inquiring spirit, and show us what we are; as the coming of the Lord is imminent.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord Jesus, search me today and know my ways, if there is any evil way in me, purge me and put me back in the way of righteousness.
2. Father, return your Church to the old time religion and kindle the fire of end time revival in your Church.
3. Let us pray for all the children of God that are still walking in the wide gate and broad way, that the Holy Spirit will convict them and bring them back to the fold.
