Tuesday, November 10, 2020 – World Science Day for Peace and Development
JESUS’ PEACE
Read: John 14:24-27
John 14:24-27 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.
These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
MEMORISE:
Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid (John 14:27)
EXPOSITION
If there is anything most sought after, by every category of people in the world, it is peace. But it is almost the ‘scarcest commodity’ in the world, today. Norman Vincent said, “The life of inner peace, being harmonious and without stress, is the easiest type of existence.” Since Adam’s transgression in the garden, peace has been eluding man, until the coming of the Prince of Peace – Jesus Christ. Man lost his peace by severing his relationship with God, but Jesus came to bridge that gap by submitting to death on the cross.
Though, humanity sought peace with, from, and through money, opposite sex, fame, position, and even going on holidays, they never find peace. Only those who find Jesus find peace, because He had made Himself peace between man and God. Zacchaeus, Nicodemus, the woman with the issue of blood, the centurion, etc., all had peace when they met with Jesus. Those who think they are looking for peace only find happiness (not even joy) which is temporary. Jesus’ peace is permanent.
My peace I give to you. The Holy Spirit is the lasting peace anyone can have. He is the Comforter in times of trouble, a Teacher when you are ignorant of what to do, a Counsellor, etc. The Holy Spirit gives believers the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22, 23), for the administration of our lives. Having this fruit will give you smiles in time of despair. We need to be justified by Jesus Christ to have His peace (Rom. 5:1). There is no peace for the wicked only those who know and trust Him can enjoy His peace (Isaiah 26:3). If the absence of peace is occasioned by lack of good relationship with God, then, to have peace, let us retrace our steps back to our Creator. And don’t forget that only where there is true peace can there be real development. With Him, you will always rejoice (Phil. 4:4)! Happy World Science Day for Peace and Development!
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, help me never again to seek any help outside of You.
2. O Lord, let Your peace continue to reign in my family.
3. Father, shower Your gifts on the Church, and help us to grow in Your grace more to affect one another, positively.
