BLESSINGS TURNED CURSE

Read: Exodus 10:1-7

Exodus 10:1-7  And the LORD said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh: for I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I might shew these my signs before him:

And that thou mayest tell in the ears of thy son, and of thy son’s son, what things I have wrought in Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that ye may know how that I am the LORD.

And Moses and Aaron came in unto Pharaoh, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before me? let my people go, that they may serve me.

Else, if thou refuse to let my people go, behold, to morrow will I bring the locusts into thy coast:

And they shall cover the face of the earth, that one cannot be able to see the earth: and they shall eat the residue of that which is escaped, which remaineth unto you from the hail, and shall eat every tree which groweth for you out of the field:

And they shall fill thy houses, and the houses of all thy servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians; which neither thy fathers, nor thy fathers’ fathers have seen, since the day that they were upon the earth unto this day. And he turned himself, and went out from Pharaoh.

And Pharaoh’s servants said unto him, How long shall this man be a snare unto us? let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God: knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed?

MEMORISE:

Then Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; for every man of the Egyptians sold his field, because the famine was severe upon them. So the land became Pharaoh’s (Genesis 47:20)

EXPOSITION

Joseph, was a young boy, who was betrayed and sold into slavery by his own blood in order to prevent the fulfilment of God’s promises upon him. He became useful to Pharaoh and to the entire world, in the accumulated wealth for Pharaoh and Egypt as a nation. He successfully brought Egypt through economic melt-down by applying his God-given skill and wisdom. His wise strategy and effective implementation of the plan allowed Egypt to become major distributor of grain to the rest of the world during famine.

Joseph made the Egyptians economy buoyant as they exchanged livestock for food after they ran out of money. When all of the livestock had been traded, people willingly sold themselves into slavery to Pharaoh and sold him the ownership of their lands as well (Gen. 47:13-26).

The presence and favour of God in the life of Joseph and all around him made this possible. Children of God carry His favour on them everywhere they go.

However, the blessings accumulated for Pharaoh and Egypt as a nation turned curse when they held on to God’s possession – the Israelites. They obstructed and wanted to disrupt the program of God. Who can battle with the Lord God of Israel and will not be seriously wounded and totally destroyed?

God sent plagues of death on the Egyptians, including Pharaoh and his household and all the land of Egypt were totally destroyed (Exo. 10:7) before they allowed them to go. Blessings of God not properly managed could become a curse.

Do not dare your Maker in your thoughts, actions and speech. Let go of all that belongs to God in your possession TITHE, OFFERING. Do not try to disrupt or obstruct God’s program and plans as anyone who dares to do that will be totally crushed. Learn from the Egyptians.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, I give you my all. My life is in your hands, do with it the way it pleases You.

2. Father, contend with those who are manipulating my life, the agents of setbacks upon my life and family.

3. Pray that God should visit the camp of the abductors of His people, deliver His children and take care of those abductors in His own way.
