APPRECIATE GOD’S WORKS AND WORDS
Read: Psalms 111:1-10
Psalms 111:1-10 Praise ye the LORD. I will praise the LORD with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation.
The works of the LORD are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein.
His work is honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth for ever.
He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the LORD is gracious and full of compassion.
He hath given meat unto them that fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant.
He hath shewed his people the power of his works, that he may give them the heritage of the heathen.
The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure.
They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness.
He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.
MEMORISE:
The work of the Lord are great, Studied by all Who have Pleasure in them. (Psalms 111:2)
EXPOSITION
Knowledge may be found within the walls of classrooms, but wisdom is given by the fear of the finite in the presence of the Infinite, the sinful in the presence of the Holy. This is the beginning of all true wisdom. It is good to pray a lot, because a prayerless Christian is a powerless Christian. Paul enjoins us to pray without season (1 Thess. 5:17), but we must likewise study the mighty acts of God—His Providence, healing the soon-to-die, etc. With those who fear Him, we should study the great works of God with pleasure.
Studying and knowing about what God did in the past, and what He has for us in the future should spur our praise and commitment to Him, the more. Should Israel forget her deliverance from the hands of Pharaoh and the Egyptians hosts, the supply of manna and other victorious experience? God Himself did remind them often and often (Psa. 136; Isa 43:1-13). Or should the paralysed man at the pool of Bethesda forget the graciousness of the Mighty God, who rose to help him when others were tired of him (Jn. 5:7-9)? There are many things to praise and revere God for if we would commit ourselves to the part of wisdom.
As a nation, community, and Church, let us study Gods Word to know His promises for us, so we can be more appreciative, hopeful and dedicated to His service. A critical look at God’s works in your life makes you know that you are wonderfully and fearfully made; you are a very neat work (a masterpiece) from the Almighty God. So, instead of killing yourself, why not study God’s works in and around you, and live now and in eternity with God Almighty, praising His majesty forever.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord impress Your Word in my heart and let it guide my ways.
2. O Lord, help believers to be as much fervent in the Word as they do in prayer.
3. Father, help ministers of the Gospel to give themselves to learning under the Holy Spirit and be more impactful to the Church.
