TRUE HUMILITY
Read: Colossians 2:18-23
Colossians 2:18-23 Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.
Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,
(Touch not; taste not; handle not;
Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?
Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up (James 4:10)
EXPOSITION
There are things one can pray till eternity for, yet won’t get, but that actually answer to faithfully obeying biblical principles. One of them is divine uplifting, which is hardly gotten by how well one can pray and fast. It comes through honest practice of true humility(cf. Psa. 75:6-7; 1 Pet. 5:6). Divine exaltation is the desire of everybody. If you truly want it to be your portion, you have to do away with false humility and pride. By the way, you can only get what God has for you usually by MERCY not MERIT.
According to today’s text, there are people who manipulate others or things in the name of humility, but the motive behind what they do is self-gratification. Some practise humility with the aim of pleasing men (Eph. 6:6). You practice false humility if you try to impress other persons with such calculated actions. There are people who do spiritualise things to show to others that they are humble.
True humility isn’t fabricated or feigned. It is the state of the mind through the help of the Holy Spirit. True humility is to deliberately exalt others in honour (Rom. 12:10; Phil. 2:3). It is to be lowly in heart, not arrogant or boastful. It is to give to others credit that belongs to you (Jdg. 8:1-3). True humility is self-giving and self-sacrificing for the sake of others in order to help and serve them (Phil. 2:4-11). It is to avoid being self-centred and preoccupied with self-concerns (Jdg. 8:22-23).
When you treat everyone with respect, regardless of their ages, statuses and positions, you practise true humility. True humility is to be teachable, receptive to correction and training. Do you quickly admit your faults and failures? How do you treat other people around you? Do you place value on people as you deal with them? Check your life and amend your ways where necessary.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Father, let the spirit of true humility guide the way I talk and act.
2. I ask for the inner capacity to treat others with respect, regardless of their ages, statuses and positions.
3. Pray for revival of true humility as of old in all our local churches
