FROM GOLD TO CLAY

Read:  Lamentation 4:1-10

Lamentation 4:1-10 How is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured out in the top of every street.

The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!

Even the sea monsters draw out the breast, they give suck to their young ones: the daughter of my people is become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.

The tongue of the sucking child cleaveth to the roof of his mouth for thirst: the young children ask bread, and no man breaketh it unto them.

They that did feed delicately are desolate in the streets: they that were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills.

For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands stayed on her.

Her Nazarites were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more ruddy in body than rubies, their polishing was of sapphire:

Their visage is blacker than a coal; they are not known in the streets: their skin cleaveth to their bones; it is withered, it is become like a stick.

They that be slain with the sword are better than they that be slain with hunger: for these pine away, stricken through for want of the fruits of the field.

The hands of the pitiful women have sodden their own children: they were their meat in the destruction of the daughter of my people.

MEMORISE: The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter! (Lamentions 4:2).

EXPOSITION

God once promised Abraham and his generations the land of Canaan flowing with milk and honey, and He fulfilled it. Their fame went abroad and became a terror to the surrounding nation. Though not as numerous as other, nations, Israel was made powerful and strong by Yahew, so they could be His pride and bring other nations to His knowledge. If God be for us, who can be against us? (Rom. 8:31)

Israel was valuable as a people of God, and became His love, but gradually they diminished and became clay, worthless, easily broken and pressed down because they had forsaken all that is God’s. When you are on the Lord’s side, everyone wants to associate with you  because, God’s glory radiates in your life. However, the moment you abandon the light that makes your gold shines, you become clay, ruffled, pressed down, and sometimes shaken off. No one wants to price you anymore. You become common, though God desires you to be a peculiar person (1 Pet. 2:9).

Have you been blessed, lifted and honoured by the Lord? Then, be careful not to bite the finger that feeds you, else you be brought down from the height of glory. Is your church still God’s pride? Has she not brought herself low and down before the world? Remember, KJV:Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people. (Prov. 14:34). Avoid temporal pleasure of sin that has grave consequences, both now and in eternity. For your gold to continue shining, you must align yourself with  Jesus, today.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, forgive my waywardness, and restore me in Your presence.

2. Lord Jesus, I refuse to be brought down, for any reason, from the height of success You accord me.

3. O Lord, clean up our nation and Church of the pollution of sin, and bring sinners to true repentance.
